The source of fresh produce
1 December 2011 | by (New York) – See all my reviews

Ray is back at Leah's. We see him as this chapter begins drinking Bailey's a new drink for him. Leah questions about his new taste on the sweeter liqueur. She has felt his absence and wants to express her gratitude. She decides to show her happiness in having him back, while he frets about the children in the house. Ray looks for Belinda in the park where they met. She is as happy as can be with her newly found man. Ray wants to break up, but they end kissing.

Meanwhile, Jonathan is fretting about the impending visit to a 'friendship counseling' with a woman therapist. George is reluctant to talk to his friend in the waiting room, remarking about how he had felt about their friendship. When they go inside, Lori, the woman therapist, insists in sitting them side by side while she has her feet rubbed by them to 'pick up the vibes from them' She is able to see what makes each guy tick. She realizes Jonathan is neurotic, for example, while George she finds is a good lover.

Jonathan is spying on Richard's, the Antrem's restaurant. He gets a Hispanic worker, who is scared thinking the amateur detective is an immigration man. It is Louis Greene who does all the shopping for the restaurant. He is in charge of going over to the nearby farms to get the freshest produce. Ray goes into Richard's where he meets Louis, who is working in the restaurant. Louis sees an opportunity to get closer to Ray, and even gives him a French kiss.

George, now reconciled with Jonathan, wants to try sing again with the Yale choir. He needs a vocal coach and finds it in the form of Josephine, a foxy lady who ends up in bed with her pupil. Ray and Jonathan, having followed Louis Greene, are puzzled when he pulls into the parking lot of a C-Town grocery on 130th and Broadway. The duo realize what Louis has been doing. He has bought everything for Richard's at local stores, produce and basics. With the help of George, they trapped the man, who has no excuse for what he has done. A confrontation with Antrem is in order, George does not want a retraction in the N.Y. Times review because he feel vindicated.

Tristram Shapeero directed the episode written by its creator, Jonathan Ames and Sam Sklaver. Excellent timing shown by Mr. Shapeero, who has contributed to the series before. The three principals do their best. Mary Steenburgen, Mrs. Ted Danson, in real life, does a marvelous turn as the vocal teacher Josephine. Olympia Dukakis has a small part. John Hodgman, the odious Louis Greene keeps surprising with his prissy character. Sarah Silverman is fun to watch as the therapist.
