This will be the first show the company will produce based on a film and it is expected to debut in late 2015. This will tie in nicely to the release of Cameron’s sequel to the hit film which is set to hit cinemas in December 2016. We are told that 20th Century Fox who produce the films will also be partnering the shows.

Cameron announced the news alongside Cirque du Soleil president/CEO Daniel Lamarre at the C2MTL Commerce + Creativity Conference.
"Over the years, I have discovered the extraordinary talents and imaginations of both the artists and the creative forces behind Cirque du Soleil," the director said. James Cameron has partnered with Cirque du Soleil to produce an Avatar-inspired arena show, a project set to premiere shortly before the first of three new Avatar films is expected to hit theaters. The Cirque show will tour the globe in late 2015, while the next installment in Cameron’s alien action-adventure is tentatively scheduled for a December 2016 debut. All three films are currently in pre-production.

Cirque du Soleil will develop the live experience in association with Lightstorm Entertainment. The touring show is expected to debut in late 2015 and will travel the globe ahead of the first sequel in the franchise which is currently slated for a December 2016 release.
Cameron has worked with Cirque before, producing the 3D documentary feature "Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away."
