‘Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective’ Review

5 September 2011 3:00 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Most Scream fans would admit Scream 4 was a disappointment [1]. It had its moments, the seeds of some great ideas, but it didn't come close to living up to the promise of the 1997 original. Thankfully, fans can now look back fondly at the first three films in the series with Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective, a new documentary by Ryan Turek, the managing editor of ShockTillYouDrop.com. It's your basic, talking-head documentary, not unlike what you'd expect to find as an extra on any Blu-ray worth its retail price. But, unlike a studio produced piece, Still Screaming contains some real honesty about what the franchise did right and what it did wrong while providing a slew of new information. The film falls short of being truly "ultimate" due to some noticeable interviewee absences and a few other odd moments, but the core of the film will delight not only Scream fans, »

DVD: Still Screaming Blu-ray Release, Signing Details

30 August 2011 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

A year ago, more or less, I joined forces with producer Anthony Masi to write and direct Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective , a look at the making off the Scream trilogy and its impact on the genre. The hope was to get it onto DVD by the time Scream 4 hit theaters. Alas, shit happens and we didn't make that deadline, although we did have a Los Angeles premiere on the evening before Scream 4 's release. Since then, Still Screaming was delivered to the mighty Miramax who - through their DVD distribution partnership with Lionsgate Home Entertainment - are releasing the doc on Blu-ray Tuesday, September 6. Where can you find it? Well, you see, Miramax/Lghe packaged the doc in a four-disc Scream Blu-Ray collection. You'll find Scream: The Inside »

Ryan Turek Talks Still Screaming

28 April 2011 10:42 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Ryan Turek, Editor-in-Chief of Shock Till You Drop and good chum of ours, has been hard at work. Between his upcoming Hellraiser doc and his Scream documentary, Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective, debuting, this is a gent who hasn’t let any grass grow under his feet.

And we were lucky enough to jabber with him, at great length, about the weird, wild experience of turning the Scream franchise’s story into an engaging feature film, featuring Wes Craven, Neve Campbell, Liev Schreiber, Henry Winkler, Matthew Lillard, Jamie Kennedy, Laurie Metcalf, Parker Posey, Scott Foley and many others.

I think we’ll take the “On:” format for this one. Cool?

And a One and a Two and a…

On “Why Scream?”

“Obviously the first Scream definitely held a lot of strength in my eyes. I was there in film school, New York, in ’96 when it first came out. »

You can still RSVP for the event if you're in the area. To keep the momentum going, with Scream 4 on the way, I thought I'd leak out a 36-second clip from the Scream 3 chapter of the documentary. Here you'll find editor Patrick Lussier and Ehren Kruger talking about the various opening sequences that were considered in the third film's writing stage. Kruger goes into a bit of detail about what Kevin Williamson originally had in mind »

In addition to operating Shock Till You Drop, I used my free time to write and direct a feature-length retrospective on the Scream franchise called: Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective . The project is done . It's in the studio's hands, an hour and 45 minute-look at the making of the entire Scream trilogy featuring various cast and crew members as well as never-before-seen pics.
