National Geographic has released the first look at its upcoming season of the anthology series ‘Genius’, which will focus on the lives and legacies of two of the most influential civil rights leaders in American history: Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X.
The series, titled ‘Genius: MLK/X’, will explore the formative years, pioneering accomplishments, dueling philosophies and key personal relationships of both men, who rose to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s and shaped the movement for racial equality and justice.
The series will feature Kelvin Harrison Jr (‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’) as King, Aaron Pierre (‘The Underground Railroad’) as X, Weruche Opia (‘I May Destroy You’) as Coretta Scott King, and Jayme Lawson (‘The Batman’) as Betty Shabazz. The cast also includes Ron Cephas Jones (‘This is Us’), who passed away in August 2023, in one of his last roles.
