'Between Two Ferns' holiday edition with Samuel L. Jackson, Tobey Maguire and Arcade Fire

18 December 2013 1:45 PM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Zach Galifianakis is back with a new installment of his web series "Between Two Ferns," and things are just about as uncomfortable as ever. The special holiday episode of the show welcomes Samuel L. Jackson, Tobey Maguire and Arcade Fire as guests.

Things get off to a rough start when Maguire tries to help Galifianakis out with some basic TV production information, which the host doesn't really want to hear about. Galifianakis makes jokes about "Die Hard," "Snakes on a Plane," "Spider-Man" and "The Cider House Rules" before deciding to instead promote his own film, "The Campaign," which is out on Blu-ray. Maguire autographs the copy he's given and hands it back.

Finally, Galifianakis throws the show over to his musical guest, Arcade Fire. As snow starts to fall, they treat the audience to a very bizarre version of "Little Drummer Boy," which is definitely not like any other performance »

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues review: how news got broken

17 December 2013 7:04 AM, PST | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Far from perfect, but its humor is nearly Monty Python-esque, much more deliciously absurd and creatively bizarre than its predecessor. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): hated the first film

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

By Odin’s beard! The spirit of Movies 2013 is all over Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. I’m not even kidding. It’s got a “working at SeaWorld will kill your soul” vibe, just like Blackfish. It’s all superfly 70s New York bullshit and self-delusion like American Hustle. It’s got a shark fight right outta The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (and poor Kristen Wiig playing the exact same part she plays in Mitty, the gal a guy falls in love with from afar at the office, even if it’s all way goofier here). It’s got a man lamenting getting left behind »

Interview: Director Adam McKay Stays Classy for ‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues’

17 December 2013 6:43 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – The comedy juggernaut of Adam McKay and Will Ferrell is about to descend on the holiday movie season with “Anchorman 2,” the sequel to the popular first film. McKay is the behind-the-scenes partner with Ferrell, producing hilarious favorites like “Talladega Nights,” and co-founding the “Funny or Die” website.

McKay has had virtually every job in comedy, and his roots are right here in Chicago as a writer and performer. In 1990, he helped to start the Upright Citizens Brigade, which came out of Chicago’s Improv Olympics (iO), and moved from there to the mainstage cast of The Second City in 1995. He auditioned shortly thereafter for “Saturday Night Live,” and he worked as a writer there from the mid 1990s to 2001, serving as head writer for three seasons.

Will Ferrell hangs out with Toronto mayor Rob Ford, drives a Zamboni

16 December 2013 7:00 PM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Sure, Will Ferrell made fun of Toronto mayor Rob Ford when he appeared in-character as Ron Burgundy on "Conan." The two have some history though, which Will explained during a trip to "The Late Show with David Letterman" on Monday (Dec. 16) to promote "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues."

Will was in Toronto to do some promotional work for "The Campaign," alongside his co-star Zach Galifianakis, and spent some time with Mayor Ford, "pre-enjoyment" of crack, as he likes to call it. "We got to go to the Hockey Hall of Fame," Will says. "We got to pull up in a Zamboni. I got to drive a Zamboni through the streets of Toronto, which is great because I got to drive and Zach for to stand there and wave at people, muttering, 'This is the worst day of my life.'"

Then the two actors attended a press conference, where they were introduced by Mayor Ford. »

An Adventure in Space and Time review: making history

26 November 2013 5:16 PM, PST | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Mark Gatiss treats the legends of Doctor Who’s creation as only a longtime fan can, in a lovely tribute full of the exasperated acceptance that rose-tinted hindsight brings. I’m “biast” (pro): love love love everything about Doctor Who

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

I suspect even many deeply devoted fans of Doctor Who — people who have no problem acknowledging how profoundly weird a show it is, and who know how insanely popular and profitable it is for the BBC today — have any idea how much of a crapshoot it was at its creation. And I cannot imagine a better valentine to the show and its oddball hero than this lovely docudrama looking at its creation, which has as an underlying premise the notion that only a little band of unlikely outsiders could have possibly gotten it made as something that would endure, »

Tom Cruise Still Trying to Get Jack Nicholson to Join 'El Presidente'

20 November 2013 10:17 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

We haven't heard anything about the action thriller El Presidente since 2010 when Tom Cruise was attached to the project and the actor was trying to get the likes of Jack Nicholson and even Robert Downey Jr. involved in the project with Jay Roach (Game Change, The Campaign) directing. Now Cruise is back with a vengeance trying to get the film off the ground at Warner Bros. again, and this time he has his Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman at the helm, and the two are making a last ditch effort to get Nicholson involved in the project which would mark their first big screen reunion since A Few Good Men back in 1992. For those who don't know, the story follows a dedicated Secret Service agent (Cruise) assigned to protect a bumbling and degenerate ex-president (Nicholson) with apparently hilarious, yet quite dangerous, results. The unlikely duo would find themselves on »

New Posters for The Lego Movie and The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug

13 November 2013 12:50 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

A trio of new character posters from directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s excellent-looking animated film The Lego Movie have landed online.  We’ve already seen character posters for Morgan Freeman’s mystic character Vitruvius and Charlie Day’s goofy Benny, and now we’ve got posters for Will Ferrell’s villain Lord Business, Elizabeth Banks’ female lead Wyldstyle, and Will Arnett’s Batman.  The most recent trailer for the film was fantastic, and this is most definitely one of my most anticipated releases of next year.  The film opens on February 7, 2014. Additionally, a new poster for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has been released that pits Martin Freeman’s Biblo Baggins against some pesky spiders.  If you missed the latest trailer for Peter Jackson’s sequel, click here.  The film opens in 2D, 3D, Hfr 3D, and IMAX 3D on December 13th.  Hit the jump to check out all of the posters. »

The Lego Movie Reveals Character Posters for Morgan Freeman and Charlie Day

11 November 2013 7:48 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The Lego Movie released two character posters today.  The poster for the Charlie Day character (Benny) is exactly what you'd expect for a Lego movie: a big goofy smile on the classic yellow figure.  It's pure joy.  The other poster is indescribably creepy.  Morgan Freeman's mystic character Vitruvius stares at you with glowing dead eyes.  Just end with the Benny poster, and everything will be okay. The story follows Emmett (Chris Pratt), an average Lego minifigure who is mistaken for an extraordinary person who can save the world: "He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant (Will Ferrell), a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared."  The Lego Movie opens in 3D on February 7, 2014.  See the posters after the jump. Bryan Cranston Set to Write Screenplays in the Bathtub as Dalton Trumbo

19 September 2013 6:30 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

In 1953, Dalton Trumbo won his first Oscar for writing Roman Holiday, but the man who went up to the podium (and whose name was on the film) was Trumbo’s friend Ian McLellan Hunter. Three years later, Trumbo won a second Oscar for The Brave One, but the name engraved on the statuette was “Robert Rich.” Why did he need a human stand-in and a pen name if he was doing such stellar work? Because he had been blacklisted after serving nearly a year in prison for contempt of Congress. You see, there was a hilarious time in American history that we all look back on and laugh at because it was dominated by members of the government being terrified of ideas that were different from their own. Although it’s difficult to imagine a United States Senator (and a Republican at that!) railing against a leftist agenda in Hollywood today, it »

‘Sleeping With Other People’ Recruits Untrustworthy Sex Addicts Jason Sudeikis and Kirsten Dunst

10 September 2013 3:00 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions has a new comedy coming our way. According to a report from Variety, they’re now backing Bachelorette writer/director Leslye Headland’s new romantic comedy, Sleeping With Other People, which is about a devil may care womanizer and a woman who’s a remorseful serial-cheater getting together and teaching each other about life and stuff. Apparently what first starts off as a platonic relationship based around their shared interest in having sex with as many different people as possible eventually leads to a mutual attraction, and then complication. Headland having a new movie in the works isn’t the only news here though. Sleeping With Other People also has its stars in place as part of its deal. The same report says that Jason Sudeikis and Kirsten Dunst are all signed to play the promiscuous leads. This, of course, will be Dunst’s second teaming with Headland »
