"T'embrasser une derniere fois", is a short film that packs an intensity rarely seen in other full length movies. Directed with sure hand by Olivier Jahan, who also wrote the screenplay, it was an unexpected surprise when it showed up on a French international cable channel not long ago.

We are taken to a hospital room where Marie is visiting her terminally ill mother. To aggravate matters, she cannot reach an absent sibling to come to a decision about to let a suffering parent out of the state she is in. The hospital psychologist, Helena, has a talk with Marie as she takes her to the metro. Helena wants to reassure Marie not to feel guilty if letting her mother die with dignity is decided. The women continue talking at a club where Marie decides to get into a bit of dancing to relieve her tension.

Stepping outside to smoke, Marie, is approached by a stranger, Selim, a cook going to work at a small fast food joint down the street. He wants to bum a cigarette. Selim, unexpectedly, asks Marie to smell him and tell him if he is reeks of grease used at the shop. Marie answers him she detects perspiration and perfume. Marie felt intrigued by the meeting. Leaving the club, she decides to stop by Selim, who is just closing for the night. He invites her to come to his apartment. Before that, he must pick up his young son.

It is obvious Marie has in mind to have sex with this kind stranger, but their encounter leads to a conversation that clearly influences what this woman must face. Going back to her sick mother gives us an idea of what is coming.

Mr. Jahan got excellent acting from Jeanne Rose who plays Marie. This actress shows intelligence as well as a clear understanding of her character. Nathalie Richard, as the psychologist also makes an impression with her Helena. Lyes Salem shows a talent as a natural for the camera.
