I'm a big fan of Chris' work, so I apologize if this review is not fair and balanced.
Okay, confession time: The Punisher isn't really a character I like. I'm not as avid of a comic book reader as Chris (clearly) is, so my exposure to The Punisher has mainly been through the horrid Thomas Jane/John Travolta movie, it's equally horrid follow up, and maybe one comic (which I may never have finished, actually).
That said, I'm still familiar enough with the character to not be completely in the dark when it comes to the story, and while catching up with what my filmmaker friends have made in my absence from the internet, I come to find out that Chris had made this series of shorts. I trust Chris to make something entertaining no matter what the story is, so I put aside my non-interest and took a look. After years of watching his fan films, I have to say that this is Chris' masterpiece. The direction is strong, the writing is sharp, and the acting is top notch. I mean no offense when I say this, but it kind of makes me sick to see how EASY making these films comes to Chris. He manages to pull you in to whatever story he is telling and take you for a ride, and also manages to spin his no-budget projects into gold. His Punisher series is no exception, and in a world of sub-standard fan films, it rises to the top and dominates.
I also want to say that, if another Punisher movie should be made, Chris should be on the list of directors to consider. If Chris can pull in someone like me with no real interest in the character, and pull off some truly entertaining shorts with absolutely NO budget, imagine what he could do with audiences across the country and around the world.
Think about it, Hollywood.
