The new year is here. Valentine’s Day is coming up, and Netflix has unveiled new details about their upcoming romantic comedy, Players, which also includes some first-look pictures. The cast of the new comedy features an ensemble that includes Gina Rodriguez, Damon Wayans Jr., Joel Courtney, Augustus Prew, Liza Koshy, Ego Nwodim, Marin Hinkle and Tom Ellis. The movie follows in the tradition of films like Wedding Crashers, where a group of friends have perfected the process of meeting strangers for one-night stands and the complications that can arise from that.
The official synopsis from Netflix reads,
“New York sportswriter Mack (Gina Rodriguez) has spent years devising successful hook-up “plays” with best friend Adam (Damon Wayans Jr.) and their crew. While it has led to countless one-night stands over the years, following their playbook comes with a strict set of ground rules — chief among them: you can’t build a relationship from a play.

When it’s your son’s launch vehicle, you are bound to go all out to promote your son. And director Abbas of Abbas Mustan duo is no different. The filmmaker who is all set to launch his son Mustafa with a romantic thriller Machine is making sure that he gets the best team for his son’s film.
What’s interesting is that, rather than choosing a regular storyline for his debut, Mustafa has chosen a slightly different film. The movie won’t be a candy floss romantic saga but an intriguing romantic film which will have twists and turns. And along with romance, Mustafa will be seen performing some daredevilry stunts and mouthing some power-packed dialogues. His character will be seen emoting shades of love, action, thrill and suspense.

In a career spanning close to 150 films over 45 years, 67 year old veteran actor Vinod Khanna has adopted quite a few different looks. No wonder, he was in mood for some experimentation when it came to his latest outing Koyelaanchal as well. With filmmaker Asshu Trikha detailing out the character sketch of a 'Coal Mafia King' to him, the actor was doubly excited to adopt an altogether different look for the film. "The film is set in Jharkhand and this is the first time ever that Khanna saab is playing a character based out of that land. Moreover, it is a very substantial role, especially when compared to his recent films like Dabangg 2, Ramaiya Vastavaiya or Players. This time around he is the central antagonist and is a driving force of the film. He just wanted to get it all perfect and wanted to start with the look," informs a source.

This year moviegoers finally felt the full force of a star that went supernova two years ago…a major comedy star named Melissa McCarthy. She had accumulated small roles in film and TV, but the surprise Summer smash of 2011, Bridesmaids, made everyone take notice, even Oscar (she was a Best Supporting Actress nominee), when she stole almost every scene. Since then Ms. McCarthy’s kept busy doing a CBS sitcom named “Mike and Molly” (and has nabbed an Emmy) and last Winter she had an all too brief cameo in This Is 40 (you have to stick around for the end credits which included several unused takes that are a wonder of improvisation). But now we’re finally getting her in showcase movie lead roles (besides a very funny cameo in the otherwise dreary recent The Hangover III). This past February she co-starred with Jason Bateman in the surprise box...

Though Neil Nitin Mukesh had a crucial release this week, he's pitching in hard for Sonam Kapoor who has a crucial release this Friday. Neil and Sonam have been close friends from the time they worked together in Abbas-Mustan's pricey fiasco Players. Ever since then, the two have kept close tabs on each other's projects and make sure they watch one another's films. There's a healthy give-and-take of criticism from both ends. Neil feels this Friday brings a new beginning for both of them. "Sonam in Raanjhanaa is completely transformed. I can see the change in her. I feel it would be like a new beginning for her. It's like what happened to Karisma Kapoor after Raja Hindustani or Shabana Azmi in Arth." Neil himself feels a similar change as an actor as he watches himself in Shortcut Romeo. We all have read our fair share of interviews, with actors complimenting the costars. Sometimes it can be a bit alarming but common nonetheless. So news of Sonam Kapoor and her admiration for her Raanjhanaa co-star Dhanush would have made anyone bat an eyelid. Except for the fact the Fashionista has claimed no one in Bollywood has the innocence and clean spirit like the National Award winning actor.
“There is a lot of innocence and at the same time there is a lot of love in the way he approaches everything” said Players actress who is working on Nupur Asthana’s next and the Khoobsurat remake that is doing the rounds in the rumour mill.
Raanjhanaa is slated for release on June 21st, 2013.

I guess Rupert Grint is the new Earl Hickey? The Harry Potter star has been cast as the star of Super Clyde, a CBS comedy pilot from My Name is Earl creator Greg Garcia. Grint will play an awkward fast food employee and superhero fanboy who inherits a lot of money and decides to use it to become a super hero who helps the deserving.
In further bad news for Up All Night, NBC has reduced its order from five episodes to just one, according to Deadline.
There's an NBC comedy pilot set in the 80s with J.K. Simmons and Parker Posey playing a married couple. I don't know what to think of that.
After struggling to find an audience all season, The Jeff Probst Show has been cancelled, despite starting out with a two-year order. Probst has strong hosting skills but,...

After the critically-panned Players (2012), director duo Abbas-Mastan have returned with Race 2, the sequel to the hit 2008 release Race. The only two actors to return for the second installment are Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor. The rest of the cast are fresh, and include big names like John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandez and Ameesha Patel. Though Race was not an outstanding film, it was certainly more thrilling to watch compared to Race 2, which is lacklustre and unmemorable. Read on to find out why.
Race 2 sees Ranveer Singh (Saif Ali Khan) setting out to get revenge for the murder of his girlfriend Sonia (played by Bipasha Basu, who makes a brief cameo appearance in this film after having played a greater role in Race). As he is setting out to do this, Ranveer engages in illicit deals, gambling and crime with Armaan Malik (John Abraham). He is...

Is the independent film directed by a fresh talent and featuring names that are not the marquee rulers here to stay? Judging by the curiously heightened appeal of this Friday’s release Akaash Vani, one would think that the small film with under-exposed faces has finally found its bearings towards the box office.
Some would say sophomore director Luv Ranjan has bitten off more than he could chew by pitching his love story Akaash Vani, starring two semi-newcomers, straight against this year’s first purported blockbuster Race 2.
We have it from a very reliable source that Akaash Vani producer Abhishek Pathak and director Luv Ranjan took the decision of pitching their film directly against the Race franchise, rather than coming a week earlier to avoid a clash.
The earlier plan was to release Akaash Vani on January 18 when Sudhir Mishra’s Inkaar was due. But when the core crew saw their end product,...

2012 has been an astoundingly brilliant year for Bollywood’s male singers. Needless to say the following 5 gentlemen soared above their talented colleagues and made an unmistakable mark upon the face of Indian music.
5. Ayushman Khurana
One film and one song old, yet Ayushman cannot be more of a rockstar. Sure the man can act and hold a film on his shoulders, but who knew he could sing as well. Paani Da Rang, a sweet and simple Punjabi track took the audiences by storm with only one complaint, we were left hankering for more. Here’s hoping 2013 changes that.
4. Amit Trivedi & Vishal Dadlani
Both Mr. Trivedi and Mr. Dadlani are jacks-of-all-trades in that they successfully score chartbusting albums and have the pipes to match. Mr. Trevedi’s genius refusal to stick to the norm gives us inconceivable fusions but it’s his earthy vocals that surprise you more. Be it ‘Wakda...

It’s that time of the year were we like to review the best and worst films, fashion wise, of 2012.
Looking back on the year, movies have been pretty average in terms of fashion in the costumes, but some films did catch our eye while we where chomping on our popcorn and getting our filmi dosage in the cinema. On the other side, some films had us leaving the cinema in despair thinking what on earth was the designer/stylist thinking!
Scroll down to see which films made it onto our best-dressed list and which unfortunately did not, in this special edition of Whwn.

5. Heroine
With Kareena Kapoor as the lead of this female-centric film, it was no surprise that the Bollywood Baadshah of fashion Manish Malhotra was brought into design her costumes for Heroine. Manish Malhotra once again proved why he is one of the stars favourite...

Despite the gems we have seen in 2012, there’s always going to be a lineup of duds that let you down and unintentionally make you laugh. 2012 rolled out the big masala films and introduced a great bunch of well-written and thoughtful films. So it’s time to scrape through dreck and remind ourselves of films that were better left unwatched and tossed out and that too for the right reasons! From egregious dubbing voices for debutantes, to more ridiculous dance moves from Salman and Ajay Devgn, the Razzies this year remind us that there’s always the good, the dreadful, and the awful.

Nov 21, New Delhi: Actress Sonam Kapoor admits that her films have not "done well" but critics always supported her work and that is why she is still part of the Hindi film industry.
The 27−year−old started her career with 2007 film "Saawariya" and went on to do movies like "Aisha","Mausam" and "Players", which failed to set the cash registers ringing at the box office. However, the actress feels her work was always appreciated by critics.
"Honestly, my films have not done very well but I am in the industry because of the critics. They have always liked me...," Sonam said at the launch of film critic Anna Mm Vetticad's.

Director Duo Abbas Mustan have been on a mission to prove that Hindi movies can be as slick, fast paced but also inane and uninspired as any the studio action movie from Hollywood.
It’s a template they’ve had quite a bit of success especially with the first Race which was a topsy turvy twistarama of a movie where everyone was looking uber hot except Akshay Khanna’s hairpiece. After the epic failure of Players (where Bobby Deol played a magician and Sonam Kapoor a computer hacker…nuff said?) they are back with fast cars, race horses, guitar riffs and Saif Ali Khan’s beard.
Here’s the trailer and some of the character images photo shopped by a 5-year-old:
If that hasn’t left you thoroughly underwhelmed head over to Upodcast for our full break down and thoughts about the Race 2 Trailer.

Life has come a full circle for Vinod Khanna and Randhir Kapoor. 38 years after Prakash Mehra's Haath Ki Safaai, they're coming together again in Prabhu Dheva's Hindi remake of his Tamil hit Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana. The veterans had played long-lost brothers in Haath Ki Safaai.
Strangely they were never cast together again. It was believed that the two did not have an easy time shooting together for Haath Ki Safaai.
Says Prabhu Dheva, "Since I am launching Kumar Taurani's son in my film, I wanted a strong supporting cast. Randhir Kapoor and Vinod Khanna were my natural choices for two very important roles in the film."
Interestingly, both Randhir and Vinod were away from the camera for a very long time. Randhir returned with Housefull this year and Vinod Khanna did Players recently after a long hiatus.
