A reluctant reunion of two estranged sisters. One is on the verge of marriage; the other is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Both struggle with truths they're hiding from each other - and from themselves. Jenny has rejected her tumultuous family and cut off communication, seeking a more ordered life far from her roots in the Bronx. And she's almost ready to commit to her longtime fiancé when her sister Lucy - the personification of all that Jenny has been trying to flee - surprises her at a critical time. Superb acting! Pleasantly surprised by this movie!
28 March 2013 | by See all my reviews

I must say the little description of this movie that's given on the back of the box at the video store (or on a live streaming service) doesn't really do it justice. I was on the fence about watching this movie for the longest time, just because the description made it sound so shallow. The only reason I finally ended up watching it was because of Mira Sorvino. I happen to adore her as an actress (ever since I saw her in Woody Allen's "Mighty Aphrodite" where she blew me away)...and I was not disappointed with her in this film. Her acting was beyond excellent in this entire film. In fact, just within the first 5 minutes of watching, she really drew me in and I found myself relating to her troubles right off the bat.

The other actors in the film were also right on point, and to me, the acting is really what made this movie as good as it was. About 90% of this movie takes place in one central location, but it doesn't really matter, as the acting is so great you never even think about that. In my humble opinion, this movie is about 2 people who are both trying to run away from themselves, and both trying to portray a face to the world that's not really theirs. It also seems to be about things not always being what you think they are. On the surface, or at first glance, some one or some thing might look a particular way, but once you start digging deeper you find that they aren't that way at all...but something completely different and totally unexpected. It's funny because that's how the entire movie plays out too. It starts out and you think "oh I know where this is going"..and about halfway in you start thinking "wait a minute...it's not going there at all". But where it does end up going is so much sweeter than you ever could've imagined. Great movie, I highly recommend! And Mira Sorvino is one of the most underrated actresses out there...I really would love to see more of her in the future!
