31 July 2017 11:49 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Welcome to Career Watch, a vocational checkup of top actors and directors, and those who hope to get there. In this edition we take on Italian-American actor-director John Turturro, who stars in Richard Price and Steve Zaillian’s widely hailed limited series “The Night Of” (HBO).

Bottom Line: For 37 years, versatile New York actor John Turturro has delivered memorable characters who can be incredibly smart (“Quiz Show”) or insanely stupid (bowler Jesus Quintano in “The Big Lebowski”), lovable (“Fading Gigolo”) or menacing (the pool hustler in Martin Scorsese’s “The Color Of Money”). He’s a go-to player for both the Coens and Spike Lee as well as a reliable character actor for Hollywood tentpoles such as “The Transformers.”

Career Peaks: After winning a scholarship to the Yale Drama School and performing Ibsen, Ionesco, and John Patrick Shanley off-Broadway, Turturro got stuck playing violent killers in films like “Five Corners »

Jesse Eisenberg has been tapped to play legendary mime Marcel Marceau in “Resistance.”

This won’t be the usual artist biopic, however. The film will focus on Marceau’s involvement in the French resistance when his country was occupied by the Nazis during World War II.

The film’s backers compare it to “Life Is Beautiful,” the 1999 Oscar-winner about a man using comedy to help his son cope with the Holocaust. Jawbone Review

Author: Lily Taylor

With the resurgence in boxing films over the last couple of years, sparked by the return of the Rocky franchise with Creed, we’ve also seen Southpaw, Hands of Stone and Bleed For This. By now we are familiar with the redemption arcs and comeback stories, so much so it’s become a breeze predicting the plot points and action beats when watching a boxing flick. However director Thomas Napper certainly makes an attempt for originality with his debut feature Jawbone. Written by and starring Johnny Harris, Jawbone is a contemporary, gritty, British boxing drama, and whilst you’d be right not to feel blown away by this film; it should in no way be overlooked.

Jawbone follows the story of Jimmy McCabe (Harris), who has hit rock bottom after the death of his mother, struggling with alcoholism and homelessness. Unable to regain control of his life »

Killers of the Flower Moon May Reunite DiCaprio, De Niro and Scorsese

21 April 2017 5:55 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Hollywood heavyweights Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio are possibly teaming up to make the highly-anticipated adaptation Killers Of the Flower Moon, based on the book by David Grann which will be published this week by Doubleday. The book was first picked up for a whopping $5 million by Imperative Entertainment last year, after a bidding war emerged, with Leonardo DiCaprio originally set to produce alongside J.J. Abrams, but it doesn't appear that Abrams is involved anymore. Our first report revealed that Paramount had the top bid at the time with $2 million, but they were eventually beat out by Imperative Entertainment's $5 million bid.

Deadline reports that no deals are in place with Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert DeNiro or Martin Scorsese, but all three parties are "seriously considering" taking on the project. Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) wrote the screenplay adaptation based on David Grann's book, with Imperative Entertainment »
