A dose of reality., 28 June 2013
Author: Gianni Schlong from United States

In response to: jjnoahjames (jjnoahjames@hotmail.com) I can't tell if you are a plant or a somewhat inexperienced 16 year old.(no offense) Saying there are famous actors in ever show is a bit misleading, as local female indy musicians, although awesome are not, in any way, famous actors. And although it may "add to the fun!!" a sketch with 3 female indy musicians and one famous actor does not add to the "funny." (proof ep. 1-3)

You say "SNL, and Kids in The Hall take place on stages or sets. Port does not. This gives it a more authentic reality show feel which makes it more accessible and less artificial." Again this is misleading as many of the Kids in the Hall sketches were NOT done on sets...and were funny. What does more "accessible" mean in this context anyway? Nothing. And as far as "less artificial" I'm gonna have to call bs again since there is nothing, from Armisen's makeup-trailer goatee, tribal-gauge lobe-holes and grotesquely underplayed persona to Brownstein's auto-tuned man-voice, deadpan face and overused dramatic bass booms that feels organic.

Giving this show a 9.5 out of 10 is frankly absurd. If you accept the number rating approach as a valid form of judgment then you have to accept a model of comparison ie, other shows. What would you give Seinfeld...16.3? What about the Kids in the Hall...15.7? Giving Portlandia a 9.5 says two things, either you want desperately to validate this unfunny sketch comedy show or you really don't know what you're talking about. Maybe a little of both.
