Storyline

Andrew is hurt when the school cash theft forces Mike, under Board instructions, to cancel the dance. Undiscovered thief Tash, however, convinces Andrew to let her take Summer's place as his 'production assistant' to mount a seniors-only dance party. Sam badgers Libby long enough to make her admit perjury. The result for Steph is a homicide conviction. Written by KGF Vissers

"Is my learned friend ready for me to proceed?"

More difficult to stomach material. It's clear they're now going all out to make Sam unlikeable by having her sneer at the camera and at other characters in a way that would probably require a mistrial in real life. And there's before you even get on to her persistent refusal to listen to the judge's directions. You do wonder whether anyone involved in this case should still be on the streets, let alone allowed to continue practising.Sam puts in a variable performance once again although she still does better than Toadie, who's practically convicted Steph all by himself.

There's some nice character moments in here:Susan's understated apology, the understanding smile Lyn gives Libby on leaving the court, Karl's tears during the summing up, Zeke's anger at what Libby's been doing. And the trademark stupid moments that make you want to clock the characters:Karl claiming Susan stood up for her principles(presumably "Always cover up for your friends, even under oath")and Lyn declaring Steph won't go to jail if she's got anything to do with it (begging for the audience to reply "You haven't").And the ending is a genuine surprise which makes you wonder where it's going to go from here.

With the trial finally back on after its unexplained absence, the subplot loses its battle for attention thanks to more dull scheming from Natasha that practically declares the storyline a waste of time. The only good things about it are Zeke and Sophie.Tellingly, they're only supporting characters.
