A good and funny show
16 April 2013 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Most shows of this genre either do good because of a super-talented leading lady who gets marketed as a singer who has mediocre acting ability with a great ensemble cast or because they have good writers. ANTFarm has a good cast and the singer has is also a good funny actress. You can't say that about Miranda Cosgrove, Debby Ryan, Victoria Justice or Bridgit Mendler. At least about being funny, since all of them have funny cast members, but they get stuck as a typical boring protagonist. She sings way more than most other actresses, but most of the time it's a song that Disney can't sell on a soundtrack. And in those songs is were you hear how good of a singer China Anne McClain really is. She was the bright spot on a mediocre show for Tyler Perry, and the show is made by the creator of the Suite Life, which doesn't instantly equal a great show. But they casting makes up for it. You can really tell they have fun with the script and that the writers have fun writing them.

They run on a sliding scale of real-life and make-believe that you would expect from Wizards of Waverly place or a even a cartoon, but it works. Viewers can really enjoy this unconventional sitcom, that almost de-constructs sitcoms. The characters are very genre savvy but it makes sense since they are child prodigies. They use zany schemes, some have unresolved episodes, but it's all in good fun. Some show forget they are sitcoms, not this one. The villains are evil, Lexi and Skidmore, but get laughs since they are a little over the top. Olive helps make the show, but had a couple times when she is the villain to Lexi or Paisley, which is awesome, even though she is "foiled". Sierra McCormick is does a great job but they show is in jeopardy of her being a spotlight stealer, because that is Chyna and Lexi's job. Fletcher, Angus and Cameron aren't your typical heartthrobs and that speaks volumes for their comedic ability and acting chops. But even the nice looking people on the show have skills.

It's really a show that gets the most out of its cast. It's as if they know the formula for making a good show in the current environment. Kudos to China for outlasting Cymphonique and having a longer potentially a longer run than keke Palmer, with the renewal of the next season. With them being high school freshman in the pilot, the show can only last four seasons, and the show should easily accomplish this, since it runs on Fridays but still outdid Victoria and iCarly near their end, with the exception of iGoodbye, of course. But still had a better episode premiere the same night. And that's saying a lot. If it's not the best show on Disney, it's only because there are currently other good shows on Disney.
