2,500 Actors Audition For Young Han Solo

2 December 2015 9:33 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Auditions for Lucasfilm's Han Solo "Star Wars" anthology film are reportedly underway with over 2,500 actors having tried out for the role of the younger version of Harrison Ford's character says Heat Vision.

Though previously producer Kathleen Kennedy said the character would be in his late teens/early 20's, they've auditioned numerous actors well into their thirties. Amongst the candidates who have tried out or who are under consideration:

Aaron Taylor-Johnson ("Avengers: Age of Ultron"), Miles Teller ("Fantastic Four"), Hunter Parish ("Weeds"), Dave Franco ("21 Jump Street"), Rami Malek ("Mr. Robot"), Chandler Riggs ("The Walking Dead"), Leo Howard ("Kickin' It"), Nick Robinson ("Jurassic World"), Ansel Elgort ("The Fault in Our Stars"), Jack Reynor ("Transformers: Age of Extinction"), Logan Lerman ("Fury,"), Landon Liboiron ("Hemlock Grove"), Colton Haynes ("Arrow"), Max Thieriot (“Bates Motel"), Ed Westwick ("Gossip Girl"), Tom Felton ("Harry Potter") and Joshua Sasse ("Galavant") and Tony Oller ("The Purge").

Dave Franco, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Rami Malek, Miles Teller & More Auditioning For Han Solo 'Star Wars' Spinoff

2 December 2015 7:27 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

So, just how valuable and important is Han Solo as a brand to "Star Wars"? The spinoff movie, slated to be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, isn't due to start shooting until over a year from now in January 2017 — and yet, casting has already begun for the lead role, and the net is being thrown very, very wide. THR reports that more than 2,500 actors have met or have put themselves on tape for the movie, and unlike J.J. Abrams, who wanted to go with largely unknown actors for the leads in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," bigger stars are being turned away from the Han Solo movie. Dave Franco, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Miles Teller, Nick Robinson ("Jurassic World"), Logan Lerman, Ansel Elgort, Jack Reynor, Colton Haynes, Max Thieriot, Leo Howard ("Kickin' It"), Tony Oller ("The Purge"), Chandler Riggs ("The Walking Dead"), Hunter Parrish, Rami Malek, Landon Liboiron ("Hemlock Grove"), Ed Westwick, »

Watch: 'Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp' Trailer Unveils 'Wetter,' 'Younger' Footage of Netflix's All-Star Cast

2 July 2015 7:22 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

So far, everything about the Netflix prequel to "Wet Hot American Summer" has been spot-on. From its full title, "Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp," to the jaw-dropping collection of comedy greats in its cast, to its first teaser, trailer and now real, non-vhs-like first footage and spot-on poster. Nearly half the nearly three-minute trailer is taken up by rattling off cast members, from returning favorites like Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Banks, to newcomers like "Mad Men's" John Slattery and Jon Hamm.  Read More: 7 New Netflix Shows to Binge Watch in July 2015 (And the Best Episodes of Each) Perhaps even more impressive than the trailer — which, frankly, was a guaranteed win given this cast — is the key art (aka, poster) released by Netflix. Kickin' it old school, the homage to classic characters — lead by cool kid Paul Rudd — is destined to be plastered on dorm rooms and TV dens alike. »
