Loved it as a kid, still love it now
TheLittleSongbird9 December 2010
I have always loved Christmas, not only was it a time for family but it also meant singing carols and watching Christmas specials and films. Spot's Magical Christmas was one of my favourites, and still is. For me if a Christmas film makes me feel warm and cuddly inside, it means it has done its job. Spot's Magical Christmas did exactly that. Just for the record, Spot the Dog was a big favourite when I was a toddler and I admit I still have a soft spot for it now. The animation is somewhat basic, but it is also quite colourful and nice for the eyes. I especially liked the animation with Spot and the Reindeer in the sky. I also loved the music, more the incidental music than the Reindeer's song admittedly, but it is very memorable. The writing has everything for both kids and adults, not too childish for adults and not too sophisticated for kids, it is a perfect balance really, while both the story and characters are engaging. Same with the voice work, which is expressive enough without going overboard or feeling underplayed. Overall, I love it and I recommend it for the family. 10/10 Bethany Cox

A Very Magical Christmas Indeed

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those very rare movies where the title expresses what I think of it. For starters, it's two things that I've always loved combined, being Christmas and Spot. One of the best things about the Spot videos in general is that they have an innocent feel about them. The animation actually seems as if it were done by a child, containing clear lines and subdued but still bright colours. The stories are also simple and relatable, involving common childhood experiences like going to school, a farm, the fair, etc. Back to Spot's Magical Christmas, this one draws on the experience of Christmas from a child's perspective. There are plenty of other sweet things about the movie such as Spot and his mom decorating the tree. The precious puppy is approached by two reindeer and asked to retrieve Santa's lost sleigh. After being assigned his task, Spot goes to visit his friends Steve the monkey, Tom the alligator, and Helen the hippo, and together they all find Santa's sleigh. As a bonus, Spot's Winter Sports is also included and is equally lovely.
