Trivia

Salman Rushdie criticized Jon Stewart for having Yusuf (Cat Stevens) appear at the rally. Yusuf had publicly endorsed Iran's death fatwa against Rushdie for writing "The Satanic Verses". Stewart said that he did not know about Yusuf's comments. He contacted Yusuf who claimed that the endorsement was a misunderstanding but he still felt that Rushdie should not have written the book. Stewart canceled Yusuf's scheduled appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (1996) as a result. See more »
