Watch The Amazing Spider-Man 2 promote Nye celebrations, plus new Electro images

30 December 2013 4:00 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Tomorrow evening, Spider-Man will be making an appearance at Times Square's New Year's Eve celebrations, where a new clip of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will also debut: a huge action sequence set in that very landmark.

You can watch the film's director, Marc Webb ([500] Days of Summer), and 'definitely the real Spider-Man' promote their upcoming appearance on Good Morning America below. Interestingly, Webb firmly centres Electro (Jaime Foxx) as the movie's primary villain - calling him the comic book's "most cinematic" antagonist - despite teasing other foes.

Also, make sure to watch the shenanigans from 3.54. It seems a bit early for the superhero's Spidey sense to be fully awake. One almost suspects it isn't Andrew Garfield underneath that costume.

Meanwhile, thanks to Empire magazine we also have a couple of new images of Foxx as Electro...

Spider-Man captures Shocker in latest Amazing Spider-Man 2 viral article

29 December 2013 4:16 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Sony's Daily Bugle viral site for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has already teased the inclusion of Shocker in the rebooted Spider-Man universe, and now a new article has arrived online covering a showdown between the wall-crawler and the supervillain; check it out here....

Shocking Midtown Heist Foiled by Spider-Man, by Ned Leeds

A shocking Midtown bank robbery was foiled yesterday by Spider-Man. New York’s superhuman vigilante caught the mechanically augmented robber, suspected in two previous bank heists, as he fled the scene with the stolen loot.

Police arrived on the scene as Spider-Man finished webbing up the suspect, who was arrested and later identified as disgruntled engineer, Herman Schultz. Schultz created wrist-gauntlets that are capable of emitting a vibratory wave of pressure that proved capable of tearing apart a four-foot thick steel vault.

NYPD Special Crimes Unit Detective Stan Carter stated that Schultz had officially been remanded into custody »

Ralph Fiennes On How His Own Celebrity Factors Into 'The Invisible Woman' and How Painful It Was to Edit His Own Performance

23 December 2013 10:10 AM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

With "The Invisible Woman," Ralph Fiennes proves that his acclaimed directorial debut "Coriolanus" was no fluke. Shot just over a year later, "The Invisible Woman" sees the Oscar-nominee go from playing one of Shakespeare's most divisive protagonists to embodying beloved author Charles Dickens. Showcasing his breadth as a filmmaker, the handsome, refined production marks a notable change in style from the gritty, experimental one he employed to bring "Coriolanus" to the screen. The period drama tells the little known story behind Dickens' secret 13-year affair with his mistress, Nelly Ternan (played by "Like Crazy" breakout Felicity Jones). It opens in select theaters Dec. 25. Read More: Indiewire Reviews 'The Invisible Woman' Indiewire sat down with Fiennes in New York to discuss his latest. This marks your sophomore feature as a director. What came easier this time around? Having done it once, that gives you a certain degree of confidence. »

Sundance 2014: Cutter Hodierne, Damien Chazelle, Kat Candler & Mona Fastvold Among Lucky 16 U.S. Dramatic Comp Selections

4 December 2013 1:30 PM, PST | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

As I had predicted here, names such as Cutter Hodierne, Kat Candler, Maya Forbes, Mona Fastvold and Damien Chazelle would be among the invited guests at the ’14 edition of the Sundance Film Festival. It was such a strong year that even some items that I thought would be dark horse/long shots and might be looking at a fest berth from the sidelines are considered definite dramatic comp material, while some that was fully expecting to break the line-up have been passed up.

Horror “labeled” directors Carter Smith (Jamie Marks Is Dead) and Jim Mickle (Cold in July) broke into the line-up that is usually reserved for the newbie type of director and are coming in with perhaps different genre material. We’re glad to see Justin Simien’s Dear White People break into the 16 – it also acts as the long awaited return of Duly Noted producer Effie Brown. Actor »

Clearer picture of Green Goblin in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

3 December 2013 11:00 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

There has been a lot of talk over the last few days since the release of the new poster for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which featured Rhino (Paul Giamatti), Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Green Goblin. And one of those topics has been which member of the Osborn family will be taking on the role of Spider-Man's most famous adversary.

Chris Cooper (The Muppets) will be taking on the role of Norman Osborn while Dane DaHann (Chronicle) will be playing his son Harry. Thanks to @Tupacca via Twitter (which he sent to El Mayimbe of Latino Review), we now have a clearer image of Green Goblin, who is tucked away far at the back.

What do we think?

We've seen a new poster, we've seen three brief teasers offering up some first-look footage, we've seen a clear shot of the Green Goblin, and now with the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 set to arrive on Thursday, we've got an updated synopsis for the Sony superhero sequel...

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the »

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy — between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away — but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 viral site teases another villain in Shocker

If we trust Sony's viral site for The Daily Bugle, the 2014 sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2 may very well contain every villain written into Spider-Man folk lore. A new article concerning a bank robbery hints at what could be an appearance by "Shocker," which would see the villain joining the confirmed Electro, The Rhino and Green Goblin and the rumoured (deep breath) Vulture, Black Cat and Carnage. ‘The Invisible Woman’ Review: Ralph Fiennes’ Second Directorial Effort Is as Dull as the Dickens

25 November 2013 5:18 PM, PST | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Director Ralph Fiennes suffers a sophomore slump with “The Invisible Woman,” a soporific biopic about Charles Dickens’ mistress. On the heels of Fiennes’ vital, crackling adaptation of “Coriolanus,” this latest effort feels like a real disappointment, resembling one of those forgettable BBC dramas where women in hoop skirts sit in drawing rooms and stare at each other. While it’s probably true that Nelly Ternan (played here by Felicity Jones, “Like Crazy”) could have been treated better by her famous lover, there’s little evidence here that her life was so richly interesting and dynamic that it deserved big-screen treatment. »

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 subtitled Rise of Electro?

Captain America: The Winter Soldier. X-Men: Days of Future Past. The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Seems that these days, you can't have a big Marvel sequel without a subtitle, and that's also the case for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which has reportedly received the subtitle Rise of Electro... for its release in Brazil at least, where Cinepop is reporting that it's going by the name O Espetacular Homem-Aranha 2: A Ameaça de Electro.

This isn't the first time that there's been talk of a subtitle for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with rumours circulating a few months back that Sony was testing The Amazing Spider-Man: The Price of Power and The Amazing Spider-Man: With Great Power, both of which are appalling if you ask me. And with the studio and director Marc Webb seemingly building towards the Sinister Six for either The Amazing Spider-Man 3 or The Amazing Spider-Man 4, Rise »

Anton Yelchin Will Reach His Horror Potential Now That He’s Being Teamed Up With a Master of the Genre

19 November 2013 7:05 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

A good horror movie protagonist has to be able to do two things. They have to be likable enough that you actually care about them when they’re put in danger by whatever horrific threat they’re facing down, and they have to project enough vulnerability that you really believe they might not come out of the other end of the story all in one piece. Being a great protagonist in a horror comedy is a little bit more complicated of a job though. Not only do horror comedy heroes have to accomplish both of those tasks, but they also have to be funny, and they have to be able to make the transitions in tone from scary to funny without having the change feel jarring to the audience or without making it feel like these two different aspects of the film are at odds with each other. Horror comedies need a talented actor. A »
