What a difference a year makes!

Back in January, Paige Harbison's debut novel, "Here Lies Bridget," hit bookshelves. (She was only 20-years-old at the time.) In October, it was acquired for the big screen. And now, NextMovie has learned that it has landed a director.

Hey, Hollywood knows a good thing when it sees it.

Kat Coiro, who helmed the Kate Bosworth starrers "L!fe Happens" and "While We Were Here" (out in 2012), has signed on to direct the film adaptation of "Here Lies Bridget." (Unfortunately, Bosworth might be a little too old to play the titular role in this one.)

The young adult tale tells the story of Bridget Duke, who is the most popular — and meanest — girl in high school… until she crashes her car and ends up in spiritual limbo. Talk about a bad day. She must then confront the people she has wronged, all of »

Deadline Echo Park reports that filmmaker Kat Coiro will direct the film adaptation of Paige Harbison‘s novel, “Here Lies Bridget.” The story focuses on what happens “after narcissistic mean girl Bridget Duke crashes her car and ends up in limbo, [where] she must confront the people she has bullied, degraded and belittled, all of whom must decide if she goes to heaven or hell.” Coiro recently wrote, directed, and produced L!fe Happens, a mildly satisfying slice-of-life female-centric dramedy that stars Kate Bosworth, Rachel Bilson, and Krysten Ritter. The film revolves around three best friends and roommates who find their entirely life thrown into disarray when one of them (Ritter) gets pregnant from a one night stand and decides to raise the baby on her own (with the help »

Kat Coiro to Direct Adaptation of Here Lies Bridget

14 December 2011 11:48 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Director Kat Coiro (Life Happens) has been set to helm an adaptation of Paige Harbison’s novel Here Lies Bridget. Deadline reports that Coiro will direct the pic for Galgos Entertainment. The story centers on a narcissistic mean girl who dies and ends up in limbo. While there, she must confront the people she’s bullied over the years, all of whom decide whether she goes to heaven or hell. It’s an interesting premise that’s a bit reminiscent of The Lovely Bones, but it seems to have a positive message for teens. The tone is described as an edgy It’s a Wonderful Life (really?) meets Mean Girls. The script was written by Leah Rachel, who recently sold a pilot to HBO called Starf*Ckers. Coiro is currently in post-production on While We Were Here starring Kate Bosworth. Hit the jump to read the synopsis for Here Lies Bridget. »
