Modify Frankenstein Into An Islamic Version Is Very Strange.
folk_egm21 October 2023
Creature (Yaratilan) The Netflix limited series 8 episodes and is from Turkey. It follows a medical student who tries to break the boundaries of religion and science by bringing the dead back to life, but what comes back is far from what he expected.

This series is a highly unusual adaptation of the Frankenstein story, starting with the ancient beliefs of Islam and delving into the realm of science. The later episodes are filled with intense and heart-wrenching drama. While the narrative may not always flow seamlessly and features some peculiar pacing due to the significant divergence from the original, the story remains engaging and intriguing because of its unique approach.

A well-made minisaga
BerkayKuscu25 October 2023
A minisaga of a creature that tells the story of our mankind better than all other humans. Although the concept is taken from Frankenstein, it's got a whole another plot. We see love, sadness, disappointment, anger, hatred, hope, and most importantly, greed. Indeed, the story is all about our greed.

The acting of all leading characters are satisfying, especially of Erkan Kolçak Köstendil. However, the dialogues are sometimes banal and disconnected. The storytelling could be improved by enriching the story through historical myths and character backgrounds rather than several situations that the protagonist faces throughout different episodes.

All in all, the most outstanding Turkish production of Netflix so far.

Good story but not smooth completion!
saricaaytekin23 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The actors were fully adapted to the story, but after half of the season, the story turns into a mixture of love and religion. Audiences are waiting for Frenkestein, but they only got to see the Romantic Scarface. Erkan Kolcak Kostendil is a very talented actor and his expressions alone can carry a movie alone. One of the most important features of the film is that it shows what Turkish cinema has achieved in terms of special effects. Especially the hell environment and creatures looked like they came out of the movie Constantine, but there were no fight scenes of our Turkish Frenkestein, Ihsan. At the end of my words, Ziya character actor Taner Olmez is a young talent but in comparison of crazy mentality, he can't even close to Dr. Victor Frankenstein.

Decent story, but Turkish release
MAD_PIGE0N24 November 2023
Everything could have been very interesting, but the story lacks depth. Instead, some weak wisdoms are pushed, which are more likely to be valid in the 19th century, but clearly Turkey is in a different time, and for them they are still impressive and inspiring.

The acting is below average, there are funny and ridiculous camera and writing techniques, they tried to take western tricks and mix with the Turkish inability to make original cinema - it is known that the Turks have cinematography one idea better than Bollywood.

The events could have been played out more interestingly and even the ending could have been a bit more fleshed out and meaningful as a denouement.

A different experience for Turkey
Amarcord0629 November 2023
Cagan Irmak shoots these kinds of movies very well. He could have had a much better filmography if he hadn't shot films so quickly. The horror genre in Türkiye is stuck with movies with demons. This movie tried something different. And the creative team succeeded. The atmosphere is also very good in this series. The story is ordinary but the localization was nice. Normally, such extraordinary stories do not suit Anatolian lands. Especially scientific paranoia is not a genre for Turks. But when the atmosphere is good, you get into the story. I just didn't like the leading actor at all. The guy's acting is very exaggerated and I think it's very repulsive.

Would like to see more adaptations like this
barkinnevres23 October 2023
I am glad that Turkish producers are trying new ways to tell stories about horror and mystery, other than bad spirits which goes on of years (siccin, bokcin). I've read the book and loved how the story dissolves in later episodes. Saw some minor light problems, maybe because i also do YouTube shootings it caught my eye. Loved the costumes and decors which i think reflects the spirit of the era pretty well. Also the social structures are done well. Glad to see someone whos putting effort and work into music composing, it felt way different compared to other local productions. I wish the episodes were longer.

Story is well applied to the era and specially make up work was amazing!!
neoldu-3375330 October 2023
I started watching with little judgement since turkish netflix works dosent have very cleverly done story telling and effective sound design. Sound design was very impressive and really builds up atmosphere of the scene effectively. They successfully created a living world and atmosphere of the era. Even when sometimes lightning had little problems on some scenes it was genuinely well used. Make up was very impressive and definitely was too realistic. I really liked how they adapt the orginal story in to ottoman era and style. Each location and character was well designed and definitely cast was amazing and performance was effective. Because turkish and english dosent really match as sound, watching the series with original language and subtitles is the best way to watch the series in my own opinion.

Thought it was terrible while listening to english dubs
coinswallet21 October 2023
But after i switched to Turkish I came to realize this is a marvelous story with incredible depth, soul, and a real insight into the nature of human hearts and human character (from an albeit inhuman being's experiences).

This is a Frankenstein story to be sure, but it's got a life of its own and should be judged not on its closeness to Mary Shelly but its own merits as a cinemagraphic artwork. I have no clue why so many haters have dropped the rating down to a lowly 6 but this is a piece of fiction Netflix truly excelled in acquiring. Just hope the ending isn't the end.

My only criticism is the failure to provide true closure in the final episode, but in a way it tries to whilst holding the door open for a greenlight of another season it seems (as evident from the 2023 - ___ for its dates). Very good work directors, actors, team and historians. You've actually made me want to dive into more Turkish cinema, something I had 0 interest in or knowledge of prior.

Cheers.

Serie that worths the time spent
coco-6875923 October 2023
One of the best serie i have watched. I wasnt expecting something this strong in story. I thought its another Frankenstein act but its much more than that. Acting, story, reflections of personalities and choices, familial bonds , ignorances of masses and many other emotions you feel regarding human behaviour, visuals, depth... This is not a fantasy genre for sure, it has those elements yes but its bare minimum. This serie is more like psychology, human nature and choices. I also loved the fact that the main character is not a purely nice guy and he is not bad either. He is literally young who learns through experience, he starts as selfish teenager but somehow finds his worth in the end. Briefly fantastic job. Its definitely worth warching.

PERFECT
simge_gundu24 October 2023
I randomly turned on the series but watched it all night. At first, I found it very strange that 37-year-old Taner Ölmez was playing a 17-20 year old young man who had just started attending Mektebi Tibbiye. He couldn't get over his role in the TV series 'A Miracle' but the series drew me in so much that i forgot about it after a very short time. I NEVER AGREE with comments claiming that the series is cliché. I couldn't predict how it would progress and end until the last moment. When I first looked, the IMBd score was 6.4, it is pleasing to increase by 2 points but it needs to increase even more.

Story is a masterpiece!!
osmanbodur21 October 2023
If you have the patience, the last two episodes of the series are truly incredible! The only downside is the presence of a young child, who, if ignored, can easily lead you to binge-watch all the episodes in a single day. Nevertheless, the series delivers a powerful message about love and humanity, serving as a poignant reminder of the significance of family bonds. Moreover, it imparts a valuable lesson on the prevalence of arrogance over scientific knowledge in life's intricate tapestry. Through its narrative, 'Patient' skillfully illustrates how sometimes, despite the leaps and bounds made in scientific understanding, human hubris can still overshadow progress. The characters in the series are brilliantly portrayed, each contributing a unique dimension to the overarching storyline. Their interactions are delicately woven, providing viewers with moments of both heartwarming tenderness and gut-wrenching conflict. The cinematography is nothing short of breathtaking, with every frame meticulously composed to evoke emotion and immerse the audience in the world of the characters. The attention to detail in set design and costume adds depth to the narrative, further enhancing the viewer's experience. In addition, the soundtrack deserves special mention. It expertly underscores the emotional highs and lows, effectively drawing viewers deeper into the unfolding drama. The music becomes an integral part of the storytelling, complementing the actors' performances and enhancing the overall impact of the series.

Whoever owns the rights to Mary Shelly Frankenstein should sue! I thought this ok until it became disjointed and non comprehensible. Maybe because it's a Turkish production masquerading as a copy of Mary Shelly Frankinstein! I gave it a 3 because it wasn't bad up until the last episode that seems like it was edited around half way thru and it no makes zero sense why the people in the freezing wildeness were connected to this as it contradicts itself and veers from any coherent story that is was trying to convey! I guess that's why you shouldn't rip off something by Mary Shelly if you couldn't pull it off!

Fantastic!
lucymaclellan23 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The best and most interesting adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein that I have ever seen! Also one of the best series I've ever watched in my life. I found the Islamic perspective fascinating and the changes to the story brought it more depth and heart. I feel like I have been on an emotional journey, witnessing the limit of human endurance and suffering.

The acting (with original audio) may be a little over emotional at times for most western viewers and the English dubbing takes an episode to get used to, but if you can over look these minor things, you're really in for a wonderful experience.

Contrary to a previous review, the final episode does make sense, one just has to be watching with their full attention. The ending is tragic but poignant.

Not bad
emre_yegul23 October 2023
Other than the many unresolved plot lines this series was great. The music was exceptional and really made the show captivating and thrilling. As ive said in the first sentence, if the series had given an ending to some of the stories told during the show and spent more time and money on cgi this could have been one of my top 10 series of all time. Ill probably still watch it a second time thanks to the "creature" character and the soundtrack. Cant wait for the album to come out. One of the best soundtracks since Arizona dreaming. And if anyone has the artists Spotify or socials i would love to give them a follow and see what else they've made. Overall 8.5/10 show for sure.

Terrible Acting and Weak Story
Engerek0130 October 2023
The 1st episode had an impressive entrance. A group of trouser hunters, desperately moving upon the sleeves of a misty mountain. After that promising act, the rest of the episode gets lost between shallow conversations and acting.

The acting could be the worst I've ever seen. The actors in the 1st act was great but the rest of the cast looked like a bunch of students making fun of themselves. They ALL failed the acting assignment.

What's the story? Why have they done this movie? What was the purpose? I didn't have the slightest idea after the first 2 episodes.

In the end, Cagan Irmak's name was the only thing that made me start watching but it wasn't enough to make me finish.

Purely Amazing Story & Production
bestekavur23 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was a finely crafted production from story to the cinematic views, which definietly effectively conbined the contrasts; especially pureness and arrogance, science and ignorance; most importantly "Humans" and Monsters...

You are observing the life from the "unwanted"s perspective, just like Ihsan, the circus crew and Esma...

Looking to the Ihsan, I also felt Faust in his mind...

This was the first time I did not only watch young Istanbul but also lived in it.... From back streets to the monumental Medicine Schools of the time; it was so satisfying to observe.

Çagan Irmak nicely proved his mastery with this work of his too.

And the crew he worked with, especially Erkan K. Was amazing...

Poor creature feature.
gurumaggie21 November 2023
One of the actors seems to act with only his eyeballs and it's quite disturbing.

It's not very well written or acted and I did stick with it but, it's more funny than a classic well retold.

Some of the scenes are so outrageous that they ruin any good parts. The acting is like a bad pantomime, this could have been so good instead it's just boring and disjointed, I haven't watched many Turkish programmes and this really won't encourage me to do so, I don't mind subtitles and I watch other non English speaking films and shows. I was very disappointed in this and I was hoping it would be something we could watch at Halloween.

Magnificent
yusufpiskin20 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The production tells you at the very beginning that it is an adaptation.

If we get around it and get to the point, the production team did a great job. A magnificent 19th century Ottoman Istanbul and Bursa were established. Every detail has been carefully chosen.

Each dialogue was written as faithfully as possible to the old Turkish and the actors paid attention to this language.

If Frankenstein had been written by a Turkish author in the same period, it would have produced exactly such a work.

The details that form the building blocks of the Frankenstein character, which are overlooked in more than 100 Frankenstein adaptations made in the theater, cinema and TV series, are explained here in detail.

For example; The reason why he is obsessed with death and its aftermath is related to his mother's death and his inability to accept this death... We have only seen this in the movie Frankenstein (1994) and the TV series Penny Dreadful.

The fact that the book is told in terms of the Ottoman Empire after the Tanzimat, rather than the period in which it was written, adds a different flavor.

From the influence of the French language on the court and the Ottoman people to an enlightenment movement towards science and art.

The emphasis on the fact that the streets are illuminated with electricity is really clever, because they drew attention to this issue in the Penny Dreadful series to emphasize the difference in culture and science between the USA and Europe.

The artificial Islam experienced in the Ottoman Empire of the period, and especially in it, is very well placed in place of the Catholic point of view in Mary Shelley's book, against which Mary Shelley fought all her life.

One of the nice details is that the details in the original story, which are medically forbidden to be questioned, are criticized in this adaptation through Avicenna.

When talking about scientific/medical movements that were opposed in Europe even in the first half of the 1900s, it made people laugh when they said, "Wow, these were released during the Tanzimat period." Because the right details...

I don't know who thought of including William Shakespeare and Yunus Emre details in the dialogues, but it was nice.

Although Cagan Irmak is known for his romantic comedy/drama films in our country, he has previously done successful work in this genre with his films such as the Kabuslar Evi series and Karanliktakiler, which he opened in Montreal.

All the actors in the series fulfilled their roles as required by the characters they portrayed.

Note: you need to watch this series on a good sound system because each channel of the Dolby Atmos system has been used wisely. Every sound, every detail has been recorded magnificently, and the most important supporting narrator of this work is the sound.

Excellent
Tr-u-mpbilly28 October 2023
This is currently rated 6.8, it needs to be much higher. This is what movie people should aspire to make.

It's a Turkish adaption of Frankenstein, but with no mention of Frankenstein. It is an adaption, but it's an adaption that reaches new heights - a masterpiece which would make Mary Shelley proud.

The film was made in Turkey with overdubbing and subtitles, so there may be, and it seems like there is, a little lost during translation, but it's definitely worth a watch. Having seen so many Frankenstein adaptions, I found myself waiting for certain angles which never materialized.

Erkan Kolçak Köstendil plays ilshan, the monster, and does an amazing job.

A theater in the form of a television series
averagedeveloper24 October 2023
The original story is very skillfully combined with local culture and religion. The elements that are different from the original one make it feels like they serve this harmony. I also think that the changes do not harm the sub-messages of the text, on the contrary, they strengthen them from different angles. I've never felt the need to praise the acting in my previous comments. The acting of Erkan Kolçak Köstendil, who plays Ihsan, and the quality of the stage designs are the biggest strength of the work after the original text. The work contains a narrative about being human with all its fantastic and religious elements. People who do this brilliantly have always brought us the most valuable works of the fantasy genre.

What happened to Ihsan's dog?
nesenurozkara22 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I loved mostly everything about the series. The story, how things evolve, the characters, the setting... But it's a no for me if the the dog dies in any movie? Why didn't he go after and find his one and only friend? And they gave a story of where he's been taken, why didn't he move the mountains to do and get him, just let them take him from his bed.

**Frankenstein/The Creature 2023 YARATILAN(2023)**
nesip-795089 November 2023
**9/10**

I'm not one to get too caught up in the hype of new shows, but Frankenstein is an exception. I've been thinking about it for weeks now, and I can't stop recommending it to everyone I know.

The show is a modern take on the classic Mary Shelley novel. It follows the story of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant scientist who creates a monster out of spare parts. However, the monster is not what Victor expected, and he soon becomes a source of fear and hatred.

The show is beautifully shot and directed. The performances are top-notch, with particular praise going to Bill Nighy as Victor Frankenstein and Claes Bang as the monster. The story is well-paced and suspenseful, and it will stay with you long after you finish watching.

One of the things that I really appreciated about the show is how it explores the themes of identity and belonging. The monster is a creature of both beauty and monstrosity, and he struggles to find a place in the world. This is a universal theme that will resonate with viewers of all ages.

If you're a fan of the classic Frankenstein novel, or if you're just looking for a well-made and thought-provoking show to watch, I highly recommend Frankenstein. It's a must-see for anyone who enjoys a good story.

**Additional thoughts:**

* The show is a must-see for fans of theater. The cast is made up of experienced stage actors, and their performances are top-notch.

* The show is a departure from the traditional Hollywood interpretation of Frankenstein. The monster is not a villain, but rather a tragic figure who is misunderstood.

* The show is a timely exploration of the themes of identity and belonging. The monster's struggle to find a place in the world is a reflection of the challenges that many people face today.

Intense and appealing
mustolini31 October 2023
Great music and cinematography, magnificent acting within a fascinating story. This series has a completely different storyline compared to the original, with the exception of some crossovers. However, it carries a greater intensity of emotions than the original. I felt the sorrow of the "Creature" much more profoundly in this story compared to the original book. I think this is due to the style of Turkish producers. They might be newcomers in the Fantasy/Sci-fi genre, but they are producing masterpieces in the Drama genre. "Creature" is an example of this combination of their experiences. It was the best adaptation of the original for me.

Great spin on the Frankenstein story
brianhenneman-8814720 January 2024
This is very good story. Not perfect, but very good. The acting is much better than I thought it would be, maybe a little overdone, but decent enough, especially the first few episodes. It's the last three episodes where the story really starts to take off. Especially noteworthy is the actor who plays the Creature. The series does a phenomenal job of capturing the Creature's confusion and anger at how people treat him and those he cares about. Something we all can identify with at some point.

As long as you can get past the clunky acting and behavior of the young medical student at the beginning, the rest of the story is really good.

A work that is very compatible with its scenario and period!
Dr_Neo_Cortex14 November 2023
I am very pleased with how such a scenario and acting came together. I would be happy to see more good work like this. The script is very creative and interesting. There is nothing to say about acting. It shows and makes its impact felt from the first episode. The series draws you in. A remarkable example from Turkish productions. The period in which the series was shot and the production are very nice. It deserves all the praise. The rating it got here seems low to me. Because it was on the agenda on the platform I watched. It did not fall out of the top 10. I hope there will be a second season. We see the fate of the Creator (Ihsan) and Doctor Ziya. Enjoy watching.
