Exclusive: Michael Jai White and Scottie Epstein Talk Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown

15 September 2011 1:00 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Actor Michael Jai White is no stranger to action, both off and on camera. An accomplished martial artist with black belts in seven disciplines, Michael Jai White has displayed his action chops in Black Dynamite, The Dark Knight, Mortal Kombat: Legacy, and much more. The actor puts his skills to the test in Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown, which was just released on DVD September 13, and also serves as Michael Jai White's directorial debut.

Michael Jai White stars as Case, a former mixed martial arts star in the Ufc, who trains four young fighters preparing for a no-holds-barred Mma tournament known as the Beatdown. I recently had the chance to speak with Michael Jai White and actor/Mma fighter Scottie Epstein about this sequel. It’s the start of another week, so you know what that means – more DVD and Blu-ray releases to swallow up all your hard-earned cash! So here’s the rundown of what’s available to buy from today, September 12th 2011.

Pick(S) Of The Week

Take Me Home Tonight (DVD/Blu-ray)

Starring Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Dan Fogler and Teresa Palmer, Take Me Home Tonight is a raunchy, romantic and ultimately touching blast from the past set to an awesome soundtrack of timeless rock and hip-hop hits. Recent MIT grad Matt Franklin (Topher Grace) should be working for a Fortune 500 company and starting his upward climb to full-fledged yuppie-hood. Instead, the directionless 23-year-old confounds family and friends by taking a part-time job behind the counter of a video store at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. But Matt’s silent protest against maturity comes to a screeching halt once his unrequited high school crush, »

Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown

Stars: Michael Jai White, Alex Meraz, Todd Duffee, Scott Epstein, Dean Geyer, Evan Peters, Rus Blackwell | Written by Chris Hauty | Directed by Michael Jai White

Ex college boxer Zack and former collegiate wrestler Mike are persuaded by fellow college student and wannabe fight impresario Max (played by a returning Even Peters) to take part in and underground Mma fight dubbed “The Beatdown”. Max sends the pair to train with Case Walker (White), a former Mma star turned unorthodox fight tutor and they, along with his two other students, learn the intricacies of fighting, and like any good feel-good action drama, few life lessons… But when Walker is set up by one of his students and some corrupt cops, the remaining three wannabe fighters must band together to take down the traitor in their midst and win The Beatdown.

Michael Jai White’s Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown Headed to DVD

18 July 2011 6:06 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

After a bit of a wait, Michael Jai White’s directorial debut “Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown” is finally scheduled to kick martial arts fans directly in the face when it arrives on September 13th, 2011, courtesy of Sony Pictures. White stars as an ex-mma fighter-turned-trainer who takes four up-and-coming scrappers under his wing as they prepare to enter a tournament known only as The Beatdown. Alex Meraz, Dean Geyer, Ufc fighter Todd Duffee, and Mma fighter Scott Epstein co-star. As far as DVD extras are concerned, I wouldn’t hold my breath for anything overwhelming. Unless, of course, you love trailers for other features from Sony Pictures. In case you missed the trailer, it has been embedded below. function getVideo() { var so = new SWFObject("http://cdn.springboard.gorillanation.com/storage/xplayer/yo033.swf?pid=byhw013&siteId=243&videoId=296515&autostart=false&file=http://cms.springboard.gorillanation.com/xml_feeds_advanced/index/243/3/296515/&pageUrl="+escape(document. »

Surprisingly Badass Teaser for Michael Jai White’s Never Back Down 2

19 May 2011 8:43 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

I’ll get this out of the way: “Never Back Down” was an incredibly punk-ass fight flick. I think I spent the majority of the film rolling my eyes and sighing audibly, which is always a good sign that I am not impressed. When I heard someone was crafting a sequel, I think I may have laughed a little, that is, until I learned that Michael Jai White would star and direct the flick. Needless to say, I’m definitely on-board now. The teaser trailer for “Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown” has finally arrived, and I must say, it’s pretty badass. Not only do you get to see White doing his thing, the feature also stars Ufc Fighter Todd Duffee, Mma Fighter Scott Epstein, and Ufc Champion Lyoto Machida. Wow! Check out the clip below. The Mma sequel Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown has a new trailer, and it's got everything: Topless young men getting sweaty in the gym, winsome love interests who may or may not be strippers, at least one slo-mo jump-punch, and plenty of Michael Jai White, who co-stars as an aging Mma veteran-slash-mentor and makes his directorial debut. "Why exactly are you in this thing?" asks a comely young lady. "I need this," answers Beefy Never Back Down 2 Ingénue #4. Don't we know it. »

Exclusive: Michael Jai White Talks Mortal Kombat: Legacy, Directing Never Back Down 2, and Black Dynamite 2

12 April 2011 8:44 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

With Warner Premiere’s nine part Mortal Kombat live–action digital series premiering today (a new episode will launch every week), the studio held a press junket yesterday in Beverly Hills and I got to speak with Jeri Ryan, Michael Jai White, director Kevin Tancharoen and game creator Ed Boom. As most of you know, Tancharoen and the same cast filmed Mortal Kombat: Rebirth last year and the success of the short led Warner Premiere to offer Tancharoen the job helming the new series Mortal Kombat: Legacy. While the short film was a tease at what Tancharoen wanted to do with a feature, the web series is being released in conjunction with the new Mortal Kombat video game and it’s goal is to offer gamers the history of the warriors they know and love.  Obviously if the new series is a success, I’m sure we’ll get more installments. »
