A trailer has arrived online for writer-director Charles Burmeister’s upcoming action drama Mercury Plains, which stars Scott Eastwood and Angela Sarafyan. Watch it below after the official synopsis…

A troubled young man runs away to Mexico, where he is recruited to join a paramilitary group of teens fighting the drug cartels. Isolated in the desert, he proves himself by becoming The Captain’s top soldier, but questions the group’s true purpose. As the Mexican police close in, he realizes that his only way out is to escape back to America, but first he must outwit The Captain.

Mercury Plains is set for release on January 5th, 2016.

Carnaby slate draws Afm buyers

Exclusive: Us, France, Australia, Germany among deals; Mercury Plains, Iggy Pop thriller ink sales.

UK sales outfit Carnaby International has inked a string of deals at the American Film Market (Afm) on titles including Mercury Plains, Fall Of The Krays and The Truth Commissioner.

Scott Eastwood action-adventure Mercury Plains has sold to Germany (Lighthouse), Australia (Eagle Entertainment) and Middle East (International Film Distribution).

UK coming-of-age drama Kids In Love, starring Will Poulter and Cara Delevigne, has been picked up by Factoris Films for France.

Thriller Blood Orange, starring Iggy Pop, was picked up for Us distribution by Invincible Picture.

The film was also taken by Sky Television Network for New Zealand, which also bagged rights to quintet North Vs South, Four, The Truth Commissioner, Winter and Casual Encounters.

Completed UK drama North Vs South also sold to Benelux (One 2 See) while drama Art Of Living went to Cinesky for Airline rights.

'Rise Of The Krays' marches to Us

Exclusive: Grindstone picks up gangster crime-drama.

Grindstone Entertainment Group has picked up North American distribution rights to gangster drama Rise Of The Krays from Carnaby International.

Simon Cotton (The Dark Hours), Kevin Leslie (The Third Testament) and Phil Dunster (The Filmmaker’s Son) star in the film, which charts the climb to power of the legendary East End twins.

Grindstone has earmarked a February 2016release with Lionsgate Home Entertainment handling distribution.

The deal was struck between Carnaby International’s director of international sales Tania Sarra and Grindstone’s head of acquisitions, Stan Wertlieb.  

“The Krays are truly international criminal legends. This gutsy and gritty film tells the powerful story of their violent rampage to the top of the underworld. A ‘must see’ for true crime story fans,” said Wertlieb.

London — Grindstone Entertainment Group has acquired North American distribution rights to action-thriller “Mercury Plains,” starring Scott Eastwood (“Fury,” “The Longest Ride,” “Suicide Squad”), with distribution to be handled by Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

The film, which also stars Nick Chinlund (“Con Air,” “Training Day,” “The Chronicles of Riddick”) and Angela Sarafyan (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2,” “The Immigrant,” “Paranoia”), sees a young man run away to Mexico, where he is recruited by the captain of a group of teens who fight drug cartels. Isolated at the desert camp and unsure what he is really fighting for, he proves himself by becoming the captain’s top soldier. As the Mexican police close in, he realizes that his only way out is to escape back to America. But first he must outwit the captain.

Pre-sales interest has been strong, according to Carnaby, and Mercury Plains will have its world industry premiere at the American Film Market (Afm) in November.

Exclusive: Signature takes UK rights to gangster sequel.

Carnaby has taken world sales rights to action crime-thriller sequel Rise of the Footsoldier Part II, starring Ricci Harnett (28 Days Later), Luke Malby (The Prince and Me) and Steven Berkoff (Red 2).

Signature Entertainment has snapped up UK distribution rights in a deal secured by Carnaby’s joint CEO, Andrew Loveday, together with Signature’s CEO, Marc Goldberg.

Carnaby will have extended promo footage of the title about a man who must fight to regain his place in the criminal underworld in Cannes.

The first Rise of the Footsoldier has sold close to 1 million copies in the UK.
