Quite charming and interesting.
1 November 2010 | by (Norway) – See all my reviews

I knew zero about the whole "eroge" subculture or whatever it's called before this series, so it was kind of fascinating, though I highly doubt there are many beautiful female models that are interested in erotic games, it's pure geek fantasy if you ask me, but what do I know? It does go for a semi-realistic approach, it doesn't have a distinct attitude to the eroge stuff, it embraces it and the people associated with it, with the occasional critical voice from a secondary character. At first, I, as well as many others, thought this would be a series about incest, thankfully it isn't, at least not yet, they tip-toe around the topic, sometimes making jokes about it, but that's about it, a recent episode had the brother saying he loved his sister to her best friend in order to make them become friends again, don't ask. It's jarring moments like these that clash with the semi-realism they seem to be going for. I wish the show would be funnier, but then again, it doesn't try to make you laugh constantly, the jokes are fairly few and far between, but there are some clever jokes and fun character. If you want comedy, check out "Tantei Opera Milky Holmes" or "Shinryaku! Ika Musume" instead, which are far funnier.

There is a sweetness to the series, the relationship between the brother and the sister is quite nice, though the sister, Kirino, can be intolerable when she acts like a brat, which is a lot more often than I would've liked, it was fine at first, but now she kind of gets on my nerves a bit. The drama so far have been quite good and not overly melodramatic, I do care about the characters and I will be watching it for the moment, because it has managed to keep my interest thus far. I just hope they don't go and include actual incest in the show, if people want to see that kind of stuff, there are other shows out there, like the recent new anime "Yosuga no Sora", I don't think another one is needed, but that's just my opinion. "Oreimo" is a decent show. The opening song "irony" is pretty good as well, I don't know where it's gonna go eventually, which is kind of interesting, again, hopefully no incest or brutal violence, though I think the chances are slim for the latter, thankfully.
