The reason is that cameraman/director Francois Clousot is working from a script by Melissa Monet, one of Adult's most talented writers, following her successful acting career.
JD stars as a wealthy socialite, who we see constantly going to fundraising dinners and parties (featuring the same set of uncredited extras over & over, a defect in an otherwise quality production), devoting her time to philanthropy. But evil magazine writer Rocco Reed working for a scandal sheet named Tattle Tale, blackmails her into spilling the beans on all her well-heeled society friends, an instant boost to circulation.
In these days of TMZ and other crappy organizations exploiting people's foibles for a fast buck this story, as old as the movies about tabloids dating back to the '30s, is still relevant. But writer Monet has all the characters as rich, hoity-toity types, somewhere between Chabrol's bougeoiosie and Paul Thomas's bevy of social-climbers.
The soap opera dramatics arising between JD and her shallow "friends" is entertaining, but very far removed from the plotting of your typical 21st Century Adult feature. These characters are all unsympathetic, including JD's role, but I greatly appreciated the opportunity to while away an hour and a half of a porn movie that did not insult my intelligence.
Georgia Jones, an icon of both Lesbian and Fetish videos, makes a rare featured appearance in a mainstream release, albeit playing a lesbian role as usual.
