Sketches for Smart People
17 October 2011 | by See all my reviews

SMBC Theater is hilarious. Sketches can be raunchy but are never dumb, nerdy but never inaccessible. One of the few sketch groups I've encountered on the internet that are gender/race conscious. Typical sketches fall on any where on the humor spectrum from absurdist to political satire. Totally quotable and full of one-liners. There is rarely ever a sketch that doesn't hit the mark. All on a charming shoe-string budget occasionally supplemented with special effects, while amateur, never feel contrived or distracting. The cast has a diverse range of acting experience but they all have great comedic timing. You can feel the intense enthusiasm showcased by the cast. They are truly committed to the show and started it all out of pocket. Reminiscent of goofier, less cynical Mr. Show. Overall, a smart, funny sketch show with a great cast.
