FrightFest 2014: Open Windows Review

19 September 2014 7:03 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

At this year’s FrightFest the director of Spanish time travelling horror Timecrimes returned with cyber action-thriller Open Windows and comedy-horror Extraterrestrial. If that was not enough, Nacho Vigalondo also returned to the horror anthology following a first tour of duty on the ABC’S of Death, with the Parallel Monsters segment for the ongoing V/H/S found footage series –V/H/S Viral.

For the sake of dramatic escalation we suspect ahead of Nick (Elijah Wood) that not all is above board with the competition he’s won to dine with film star Jill Godard (Sasha Grey), or the reason for its cancellation. Mystery not being the precedence here, it is where this event leads that is of concern, and unfortunately for Nick it leads into his own personalised cyber nightmare where he unwittingly becomes the actress’ stalker.

From Hitchcock’s career long exploitation of the theme of voyeurism and watching, »

Behind-the-scenes promo for horror-comedy ‘Smothered’

29 May 2014 9:43 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Fairlight Films has released a new behind-the-scenes promo for the upcoming horror-comedy Smothered, which is written and directed by Hollywood legend John Schneider (Smallville, Nip/Tuck), and sees horror icons Kane Hodder (Freddy vs. Jason, Jason X), Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects, Repo! The Genetic Opera), Don Shanks (Halloween 5, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer), and R.A Mihailoff (Leatherface : Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Pumpkinhead 2), playing themselves in a scenario that sees them attending a small, disheartening horror-convention on Friday the 13th.

Running out of patience but principally money, the group accept a cash-offer to go and scare-up the local Rv park – but things take a surprising, dark turn when they arrive. The tables are turned as the monsters of the movie screen become the prey!

Early reviews have compared the film – which had it’s official premiere in New Orleans in mid-May – to »

Hustlers DVD Review

14 April 2014 3:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Director: Wayne Kramer

Starring: Paul Walker, Norman Reedus, Elijah Wood, Matt Dillon, Brendan Fraser

Running Time: 112 minutes

Certificate: 18

Hustlers (or Pawn Shop Chronicles in the Us) follows the lives of a group of people who happen to pass through the same pawn shop. As their stories unfold, we see how their paths cross and where their journeys take them.

Three main stories see Paul Walker planning a robbery with his friends while high on drugs, Matt Dillon on the hunt for his missing wife and Brendan Fraser touring as an Elvis tribute act.

Paul Walker captivates in this insane adventure as the hilarious, dirty and drug-fueled imbecile – which certainly makes a nice surprise for the actor more commonly known for being a pretty boy in his roles. His character is so high when the film begins that he sees fire come out of painted flames! However, despite the severity of »

Tom Jolliffe on the must-see straight-to-video action films of 2014...

If you’re a little fed up of the never ending stream of remakes, kid friendly PG13 (12A or 15 here) CGI heavy theatrics and Marvel/DC action films that fill up the multiplexes, or you’re no stranger to the unrepentant, simple delights of a bit of straight to video (or Netflix) action, then here is a list of the best to look out for this year.

As big screen action caters more and more for younger audiences, straight to video still largely offers a bit more adult entertainment. What it might lack in big budget thrills it makes up for with F-bombs and gallons of blood (if that’s your thing). As for myself, alongside a steady upbringing of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sly Stallone and Bruce Willis in the late 80’s and 90’s, I’ve also had more than my share »
