I haven't watched a Pokemon series since the original first couple of seasons, I've watched every movie though, except the Zoroark one, and now I've jumped on the wagon for the new Pokemon series titled "Best Wishes", based on the "Black" and "White" video games. Look, what can you really say about Pokemon? It is what it is, and this is basically more of the same, of course you have new characters, new Pokemons and new locations, there are some notable differences however. Team Rocket, who have always been goofy and comedic relief, now seem to be more serious and credible threats actually instead of bumbling morons, so that's pretty cool. The new female character, Iris, I like her, but Dawn was my favorite female character, oh well, gotta move on. No Brock to be found, great, never really liked that character. It's still early in the series, and new characters are still being introduced.
But anyway, how are the new Pokemons? I've liked most of them so far, I HATED Piplup, and of course he, or she, was Dawn's main Pokemon, so he was constantly on screen. The new recurring Pokemons following the main characters, I think one is called Kibago or something like that, is thankfully not annoying. Mijimaru, which may get on the nerves of some, I like him as well. This new series is gonna be around for a while, what is it? Like, a four year cycle now, before a new series is released? I guess this means "Best Wishes" will have four movies as well, and I can't wait to see them. Pokemon is one of very few truly inoffensive, harmless anime, the fights are very tame, slow and, let's say not exactly on the level of Dragon Ball Z, but that's not the point either, so while I find the action to be kind of boring, I do understand that they don't want the battles to be too brutal. while I may not be raving about it, I appreciate that there are shows without an overabundance of sexual innuendo and gruesome violence. I like "Best Wishes" and I guess I will be watching it, at least for a while.
