A boss of a toy corporation, Chenggong Li, tries to head back to Chan Sar to celebrate the Chinese New Year with his family. However, plans don't go as smoothly after he crosses paths with a stranger, Geng Niu.
This is without a doubt my favorite Chinese movie. I lived in China for quite some time, but now I am back in the United State. This movie brings back so many memories of my time in China. Everything is spot on with what my Chinese friends, my fellow foreign expats, and I experienced while traveling in China. There are many movies one can watch to see an accurate portrayal of modern China, but most of them are banned in China for being very one sided by only showing the negative image of China to the point that sometimes they become too depressing to watch. "Lost on Journey" is able to succeed where others have failed because it shows both the negative and positive side of China. Yet, even when this movie shows the negative side of China, it is not disrespectful nor cynical about it. It is able to show the humor in China's negative aspects while at the same time not sacrificing honesty and as a result so many of my Chinese friends and foreign expats living in China are able to relate so well to this film. And what makes this movie great is that it is not trying to prove a point. It is not in your face in anyway and yet through all its humor and entertainment, one can get a real sense of modern China.
