Quotes

Matt Anderson: Every million years or so, the magnetic poles of the earth reverse. Anomalies are part of this transition. In order to survive, life on earth has to adapt to the new conditions. And it *can*. As long as Convergence is allowed to run its natural path, which it has done every time until now.

Convergence and New Dawn
15 July 2012 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

As the episode opens an anomaly opens in the middle of London and a T-Rex comes through causing mayhem; the team rush to deal with the situation but soon more and more anomalies appear around the globe. Matt states that this is a natural phenomenon known as convergence that must be allowed to runs its course; Philip meanwhile is adamant that the only way to save human civilisation is to activate his New Dawn project... a course of action that Matt insists will lead to the very calamity Philip believes it will stop. While ARC personnel are busy dealing with the various incursions Philip and Matt both head to New Dawn; one intending to start it the other destroy it! As Philip initiates the start up procedure Matt is joined by Abby and Connor. Ultimately it will be up to Connor to do everything he can to shut the machine down; either way it will become clear whether Matt or Philip was correct.

As the fifth series reaches its penultimate episode the excitement level is rising nicely as the team must battle a variety of dinosaurs before they can get into a position to shut down New Dawn and even then there is some doubt as to the correct course of action. For much of this series Philip Burton, played by the excellent Alexander Siddig, has appeared to be a villain but here it looks like his actions are backed by the right motive; it is just a question as to whether his theories are right or not. The episode contains the right mix of tragedy and comedy; early on a teenaged girl is killed by the T-Rex which came as a surprise and towards the end Lester swung into action when a dinosaur threatened his shiny new Jag! Things end with a great cliff hanger that will leave fans keen to see the final episode.
