The haunting conclusion to a brilliant first season...
17 October 2010 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Rubicon has been on a roll in the last four or five episodes. It has proved that it started slow and subtle but the ride has definitely been worth it. The season finale (or series finale based on the future) was a haunting and brilliant conclusion to an amazing first season.

In the episode before we learned what Kateb did, and the fate was shattering. People are now on a tense journey, not really knowing what will happen next and if the catastrophe at the bay is the beginning of a series of terrorist attacks. Will has already figured the conspiracy out, and he knows what most don't. He feels like someone else should know, maybe because he is worried about his future fate. Katherine Rhumor also finds some information on a secret possession, and decides to enclose it with Will.

There was a scene that left me speechless midway through the episode, and many will probably know which I am talking about. A scene in the park, which is directed, written, and shot so amazingly well that it's suspense is unbearable, and it has a tone of dread all the way through, until when the inevitable happens I was left completely stunned. It is such rich storytelling that I cannot give any more information. The fate of two other characters in the API team is sure to change things, and I will certainly miss the two cast members that will probably not be back for the next season (if we actually have another season).

The final scene of the season was so well written, yet not action packed in any way, which made me love it even more. It was subtle, it was smooth, and it had complex details, and it haunted me. It made me realize, and made Will realize, just how tight a spot he is in, and if it really matters everything he encountered, which makes the situation even more frustrating. It was a great way to end a brilliant first season, and it would even make for a great series finale because of the way it was handled. I will miss the series in the next couple of months, and props to everyone involved, and especially the rich performances from the cast.
