Storyline

The world is left in tatters after a sudden, unprovoked and unexplained invasion by aliens, leaving the planet's remaining human population to fight for survival against the occupiers. History professor Tom Mason has been named second in command for the 2nd Mass, but his real focus is on his three sons, one of whom has been captured by the aliens for an unknown purpose.

At the beginning of the Pilot, humans are engaged in active battle with Skitters and Mechs. At one point, during a human partial retreat, one young woman runs full tilt at the fighters, yelling: "South Boston! South Boston! They've just taken South Boston!". South Boston contains Dorchester Heights, where George Washington forced British troops to evacuate during the American Revolutionary War. So this would indicate a serious conquest for the aliens - taking a section of human real estate with such distinct historical value.

Goofs

Tom Mason uses historical examples of battles. He refers to the Battle of Stirling Bridge (1297) as the Scottish against the British. It was actually the Scottish and against the English - the formation of Great Britain and the cultural identity of being 'British' only existed from the 18th Century. The character is actually a history professor so shouldn't make this sort of mistake.

Of course a lot of uninteresting things will happen when aliens invade our world.

I expected so much more from this new show, but for me it's like a b-movie that begs me to watch the 2nd part. Some good acting is involved but the horrible storyline breaks it down to almost nothing. The more interesting parts of an alien invasion are skipped, like the arrival and the things that happen prior to an invasion which might be important to the story. Nothing of such kind.The story follows the uninteresting situations that might occur when aliens arrive, like getting some food from a storage or some individual trying to get his son who is enslaved by an alien that lives on his back. The aliens look extremely unrealistic and unpractical, more like robots with mechanical spider legs actually,.... The only reason for me to watch more of this show would be if other shows become even worse. Unbelievable that a team of such professionals can make something so stupid......
