The Last Sci-Fi Blog: Examining the Trailer for 'Prometheus,' Plus 'Ender's Game,' 'Star Trek 2' and More

The Sci-Fi News: 'Ender' and 'Trek' and Nothing Much of Interest, Quite Frankly Another Sci-Fi blog, another piece of Ender's Game casting news! Thus is my burden in life. Then again, writing a science fiction blog is tough when there is a terrifying scarcity of decent related news to talk about. Since it's one of the few major science fiction films getting ready to shoot in the coming months, I suppose I'll just have to lean on Gavin Hood's adaptation of Orson Scott Card's classic novel for consistent, Hunger Games-esque casting updates to provide this column with sweet, sweet content. Anyway, know that Harrison Ford has officially signed on the dotted line and will be playing the role of Col. Graff, the military man who drags young Ender...

Casting News: Harrison Ford Confirmed for Ender's Game; Four Join Lovelace Biopic

22 December 2011 11:24 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Earlier this month, Harrison Ford was targeted for the adaptation of Ender's Game, based on the 1985 novel by Orson Scott Card. Coming from the sci-fi/Western mash-up of Cowboys and Aliens, it would seem that Ford would want to stay away from yet another sci-fi movie, as the actor's resume likes to switch genres from project to project. But with Ford being cast in the Jackie Robinson biopic 42, Ender's Game seemed like a good possibility, and finally it's official.

THR reports that Ford has signed on to play Colonel Hyrum Graff, Commander of Training for the International Fleet. In Ender's Game, humanity has been decimated by an insect-like alien race, with the government enlisting gifted children into battle school to train them to aid in the fight against the invaders. Bullied Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield, Hugo) masters a zero-gravity, laser-tag game and Graff sees his potential for saving humanity. Abigail Breslin »

Harrison Ford takes command in 'Ender's Game'

22 December 2011 10:28 AM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

The sci-fi novel "Ender's Game" is mostly about a young boy, and the movie adaptation scheduled for 2013 will be as well. But the film has landed a pretty big grown-up star to play opposite the young lead.

Harrison Ford has signed on to play Col. Hyrum Graff in "Ender's Game," Variety reports. The character is the commander of an elite battle school that trains kids to fight an interstellar enemy, and he quickly recognizes the special gifts the title character (Asa Butterfield of "Hugo") possesses.

The cast also includes Abigail Breslin ("New Year's Eve," "Zombieland") as Ender's sister Valentine, Hailee Steinfeld ("True Grit") as a battle school classmate and Ben Kingsley ("Hugo") as a war hero who takes Ender under his wing.

Gavin Hood ("Wolverine") is writing and directing the adaptation of Orson Scott Card's novel. "Ender's Game" is due for release in March 2013.

Morning Meme: Evan Peters Lubes Up, GLAAD & Hrc Step Up The Campaign Against "Work It", and Would Matt Damon Make a Great Gay Best Friend?

American Horror Story's Evan Peters was discussing the Rubber Man suit, but the quote is just amazing. And maybe a little familiar sounding. "I don’t know if you’ve ever put on lube before, but it’s not like there’s a layer of Vaseline on you; it’s just almost like your skin is super smooth and slick; it feels kind of gross, but at the same time, you feel really well moisturized. You’re not like, 'Ew, get it off of me.' You’re more like, 'This is kind of gross. I want to get this off as soon as possible. But maybe I can stop and get a sandwich first.'”

Contrary to reports from, well, everywhere, Newt Gingrich did not say that gays should vote for Obama.

'Ender's Game' Is Game On For Abigail Breslin and Harrison Ford

21 December 2011 1:41 PM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Most films like to build the hype slowly, revealing the cast one piece at a time like "The Hunger Games" all summer and fall. But the upcoming adaptation of Orson Scott Card's fellow young adult sci-fi classic "Ender's Game" is taking a different tack: They're just dumping the whole thing on us all at once.

So here you go: According to The Film Stage, Abigail Breslin, Hailee Steinfeld and Harrison Ford have all officially signed on to play major roles, along with no less than six other young stars. Now this is really going to test the limits of your tweeting skill.

Set in the kinda distant future, "Ender's Game" tells the story of a kid ("Hugo"'s Asa Butterfield, one of the few casting decisions we already knew about) who is picked by the government to participate in an elaborate training program that turns children into expert space soldiers. »

Harrison Ford Now Officially Confirmed to Be in Ender's Game Along With Several Others

21 December 2011 1:37 PM, PST | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Not too long ago the move studios behind the upcoming Ender's Game adaptation were pretty vocal in their desire to have Harrison Ford join the cast of the film.  At the time, no one was sure how likely that was going to be, but now his casting is official (along with a handful of others as well).

According to Variety Harrison Ford is Colonel Graff (a hard-nosed military leader who is tasked with training the young recruits).  That's pretty freaking awesome.  It's a great role for him and his personality and will honestly bring in a whole lot of star power to this film...which it doesn't really have a lot of right now.  Most of the cast are understandably kids (since it's about a school of super-smart warrior children), so there haven't been a lot of 'big names' attached yet.  Ford will undoubtedly turn some heads though and hopefully »
