Michael Gough hires hit-man Hans Borsody
12 September 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Candidate for Murder" came in Feb. 1962 as the 14th episode of the Edgar Wallace Mysteries.

Filmed as second features on relatively modest budgets, they are well-written and well-acted stories that entertain.

In this solid entry, Michael Gough hires hit-man Hans Borsody to kill someone. Gough is on the outs with his actress wife, Erika Remberg. (She sounds quite a lot like Elke Sommer). Remberg is leaving for Hollywood. She denies having a boy friend, John Justin, but she's lying. Borsody shows up at the going away party. He's reserved, smooth, dressed in a dinner jacket, but Remberg is suspicious. Who is this man and what does he want? She thinks her jealous husband, who is away at a local bar establishing an alibi, is plotting something against Justin.

Gough can't be trusted and doesn't trust Borsody, but Borsody is no dummy. Justin is protective, but not a gunman. Before long the plot twists arrive along with good suspense.
