When Justice Garza and his team learn that children in foster care are being removed from organ transplant lists because of their unstable home environments, he and the team travel to Florida to try to get one teenage boy, Tyler Banks, back on the list. The judge initially sides with the hospital and keeps Tyler off the list. Tyler's nurse, Doug Hughes, offers to adopt Tyler, which would provide him with a stable home, but he is rejected as an adoptive parent because Florida law does not allow gay people to adopt children. Justice Garza returns to court seeking an exception to the ban to save Tyler's life. The judge is about to do so when the hospital administrator who removed Tyler from the list produces a heterosexual couple to adopt him instead. As Tyler is becoming acquainted with them he crashes and dies in surgery shortly thereafter. Written by
