Weird, psychedelic and trippy
21 January 2013 | by (Bradenton, Florida) – See all my reviews

This short is named after the Cat Stevens song and the song figures prominently in the film. It consists of some very simple animations of a child in top-hat and his cat having adventures with the moon--which they manage to pull from out of the sky. It's all very trippy and psychedelic--the sort of stuff they did ONLY in the early 1970s. Because of this, it does look pretty dated today. All this is narrated by Spike Milligan--who I know is a bit of a British institution. However, here he was just annoying--like an Indian man on drugs.

So how do you score this off stream of consciousness film? By today's very high standards or the standards of the 1940s and 50s, it's pretty bad. However, there is a certain charm to it and for 1972, it's not bad at all. Worth a look if you are insane about animation--otherwise, not exactly a must-see.
