Storyline

MI-5 is on alert when a report from the UK Border Agency reveals that a highly sophisticated Chinese hit team has entered the country. The CIA station chief says they know of no reason why the team might be in the UK and MI-5 determines that their interest is likely a British-designed water desalination system. Beth has been working on turning a Chinese Embassy employee but her rushed effort leads to failure, at least initially. Ruth Evershed goes into the company undercover only to find that the CIA is involved and protecting the scientist who developed the new desalination process. When the Chinese station chief threaten to set off a bomb n central London, Harry must decide whether to let them have the scientist or face down their threat. Lucas meanwhile struggles to keep his past a secret. Written by garykmcd

The Chinese turn to be the bad guys
12 October 2010 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

After the Nigerians and the Russians it is the turn of the Chinese to be the bad guys this week. Beth is in the process of cultivating Kai, a worker at the Chinese embassy, when a Chinese hit team is spotted entering the country. Their target is unknown so she must quickly persuade Kai to betray his country. Lucas and another agent break into the embassy to learn the target and rely on Kai to get the information out. To prevent their new asset being discovered Lucas allows himself to be caught by pretending to be a burglar. It becomes apparent that the Chinese are attempting an action against a company involved in highly efficient desalination technology, hoping to gain an advantage when global warming causes water shortages... I won't spoil just how they plan to do this.

This was a better episode than the previous week's; the story was gripping and the loyalty of Kai was constantly in question, Benedict Wong did well in the role. After learning little new about Lucas last week we see just what he is willing to do to protect his past, this includes ruining the life of another MI5 employee and handing over classified data to his blackmailer; whether he is a traitor or is working to uncover the motives of the blackmailer remains to be seen, neither would surprise me much with this series.
