After recruiting the talents of Rosamund Pike for their last music video, Massive Attack is featuring another one of David Fincher‘s collaborators, Cate Blanchett, for their new one. Directed by John Hillcoat — with whom Blanchett nearly collaborated before she dropped out of Triple 9 — the video for “The Spoils” is a trippy one, featuring the actor’s face going through an unsettling mutation.
As we look forward to her narration in Terrence Malick‘s Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey, check out the new Venice synopsis for it below, followed by the music video.
Terrence Malick’s first documentary has been described by the director himself as “one of my greatest dreams.” It is a collage film (like Koyaanisqatsi by Godfrey Reggio) that intends to illustrate the birth and death of an undiscovered universe. A film that promises to be highly experimental and perhaps Malick’s most ambitious film. »

Featuring Mazzy Star singer Hope Sandoval, the six-minute clip is an eerie visual that shows the Oscar-winning actress’ face in front of a black backdrop. Highlighting her features from all angles, she then undergoes a transformation and morphs until her face turns to stone.

Lionsgate’s “Allegiant,” the third installment of the studio’s teen-centric sci-fi “Divergent Series,” debuted at No. 1 on the Npd VideoScan First Alert sales chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended July 17.
The film’s solid home video performance follows an underwhelming box office run that saw it take in just $66.2 million at U.S. theaters, about half the tally of its predecessor, “Insurgent.” The final installment of the franchise will skip theaters and head to TV, as Variety first reported Wednesday.
Sony Pictures’ faith-based “Miracles From Heaven” also enjoyed a healthy home video bow, taking No. 2 in the wake of a $61.7 million domestic box office run, selling 60% as many units as “Allegiant.”

With almost no high-profile new releases to impact the charts the week ended July 10, DreamWorks Animation’s “Kung Fu Panda 3,” distributed by 20th Century Fox, earned a second week atop the Npd VideoScan First Alert sales chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.
Holding onto the No. 2 spot on both charts for a second week was Walt Disney Studios’ “Zootopia,” which in its fifth week sold 78% as many copies as the “Panda” sequel in its second (and 71% as many Blu-ray copies).
Moving up a spot to No. 3 on both charts was Fox’s “Deadpool,” in its ninth week.
On the Blu-ray chart, “13 Hours” was No. 4, with Disney’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” moving back up to No. »

Chiwetel Ejiofor is one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors, taking on a variety of roles that showcase his talent. For his next role, Deadline reports that the Oscar-nominated actor is in talks to join the cast of Garth Davis’ “Mary Magdalene.”
Ejiofor will play Peter, one of Jesus’ 12 apostles and his lead disciple. Peter was a fisherman and according to the New Testament, was with Jesus during events witnessed by only a few apostles, such as the Transfiguration. He is known for denying the Son of Christ three times, only to be forgiven after the Resurrection. He is believed to have been crucified in Rome under Emperor Nero Augustus Caesar, crucified upside down at his own request, believing himself unworthy to be crucified upright as Jesus was.

Woody Harrelson is in talks to join Rob Reiner’s Iraq war film “Shock And Awe.” According to Deadline, the political charged picture centers on a group of journalists investigating the assertions by the Bush Administration about Saddam Hussein’s alleged weapons of mass destruction, the reason given by the administration for the invasion of Iraq.
“Shock And Awe” is written by Joey Hartstone, who also penned Reiner’s “Lbj” film and features Harrelson. Reiner has had the project in development for several years and is finally scheduled to start production this year.

Reiner has been developing the project for several years through his Castle Rock banner. Jorva Entertainment has come on board to finance.
The “Shock and Awe” script, written by “LBJ” screenwriter Joey Hartsone, centers around journalists investigating the assertions by the Bush Administration about Saddam Hussein’s alleged weapons of mass destruction as a pretext for invading Iraq in 2003. The film is scheduled for production later this year.
The term “shock and awe” was employed by U.S. defense officials to describe their plan for invading Iraq.

The delicately balanced foolishness of Now You See Me gives way to impossibly supernatural magic tricks aimed at thwarting the least menacing villain ever. I’m “biast” (pro): liked the first movie
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
It was delicately balanced foolishness that allowed Now You See Me to work. No such luck this time out: the second outing with the Four Horsemen, street magicians turned modern-day Robin Hoods, starts out dumb and illogical and rapidly descends into the fantastically idiotic.
Jesse Eisenberg (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Woody Harrelson (Triple 9), and Dave Franco (Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising) are joined by a new “girl Horseman,” Lizzy Caplan (The Night Before); Isla Fisher wisely chose not to return, perhaps because she realized that no matter how many painfully wannabe-ironic jokes the script makes about the token girl, “the »

It took another animated family feature with a huge box office haul to dislodge Walt Disney Studios’ “Zootopia” from the top spot on the national home video sales charts.
“Kung Fu Panda 3,” the third installment in the series about bumbling panda Po and his mastery of the martial arts to save his panda peeps from adversity, bowed at No. 1 on both the Npd VideoScan overall disc sales chart and the Blu-ray Disc-only sales chart.
The DreamWorks Animation film, distributed by 20th Century Fox, earned $143.5 million in theaters and once again features an all-star voice cast that includes Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman and Bryan Cranston (of “Breaking Bad” fame).
“Zootopia,” the animated “buddy cop” film about a rabbit cop and a red fox con that earned $340.8 million in U.S. theaters, slid to No. 2 on both charts after three years at the top.
On the overall disc chart, Universal Pictures »

There’s something about Marauders that prevents this familiarly-generic crime thriller from becoming a grungy haze of bullets and backstabbing – Christopher Meloni. The long-time Law & Order: Svu star/two-time “crazy cook talking to a can of vegetables” does what he does best: broods, confronts and conjures vein-popping intensity like pulling a rabbit from a thug’s beanie.
Director Steven C. Miller charters familiar action-centric territory with atmospheric ease, while writers Chris Sivertson and Michael Cody draw up an inside-the-box thriller that might have tanked without Meloni leading the charge. You won’t be blown away by this VOD-bound mystery, but fans of good-cop-bad-cop suspense will enjoy tagging along with this serviceable squad of hometown “heroes.”
That, or you’ll chuckle at how “human golem” Dave Bautista looks like he’s about to bust out of every cheap FBI jumper.
Christopher Meloni stars as Special Agent Montgomery, a Cincinnati-based FBI operative »

★★☆☆☆ Triple 9 is nothing if not muddled. Toplined by an all-star cast including Kate Winslet and Woody Harrelson, John Hillcoat's latest is a messy and unsophisticated cop drama that quickly stumbles into a spiritless slumber. Michael (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and his crack band of crooked cops and ex-military professionals - Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Norman Reedus and Clifton Collins Jr. - pull off a bank heist for Russian mafia matriarch Irina (Kate Winslet) despite one or two hiccups. But instead of walking away scot-free, the crew are blackmailed into another, riskier heist on Homeland Security.
