Rob Cohen to Direct a Disaster Action Thriller 'Category 5'

The past decade hasn't been too kind to director Rob Cohen. The director, who is perhaps best known for directing Vin Diesel in the "Fast and the Furious" and "xXx" in the early 2000s hasn't done much for me to be excited about in recent years. In 2005, he directed "Stealth," the forgettable plane movie starring Jamie Foxx. In 2008, he directed the third "Mummy" flick, which effectively ended the franchise. In 2012, he directed the terrible "Alex Cross" movie, and most recently, he helmed the Jennifer Lopez vehicle "Boy Next Door," which wasn't any better received by viewers or critics.

Rob Cohen Directing Disaster Movie ‘Category 5’

The Fast and the Furious” helmer Rob Cohen will direct the disaster action thriller “Category 5.”

“Category 5” follows a team of tech hackers who infiltrate a U.S. Mint facility on a small coastal town to steal $102 million just as a disastrous Category 5 hurricane is about to strike and level it to the ground. The only other two people left in the town, a meteorologist and a treasury agent, must survive the storm while stopping the thieves from getting away with the heist of the century.

Casting is currently underway, and production is slated for the spring and summer. Foresight Unlimited will handle foreign sales and introduce the film to buyers at the Berlin Film Festival next month.

Producers are Karen Baldwin, Michael Tadross Jr. and Danny Roth. Howard Baldwin, Mark Damon, Bill Immerman and Tamara Birkemoe will executive produce.

"The Fast and the Furious" and "Alex Cross" director Rob Cohen is set to helm the disaster action thriller "Category 5". Casting is currently underway ahead of filming this spring and summer.

The story follows a group of tech hackers who infiltrate a U.S. Mint facility on a small coastal town to steal $102 million, doing so just before a disastrous Category 5 hurricane hits the area and wipes out any trace of their crime.

The only two people left in the town, a meteorologist and a treasury agent, must survive the storm while stopping the thieves from getting away with the heist of the century.

Karen Baldwin, Michael Tadross Jr. and Danny Roth will produce.
