even the quote by Freud about masochism at the beginning kind of creeped me out. the rest of the cartoon was pretty disturbing as well. it was done in this really adorable, straight forward and simplistic, hand drawn animation which just made it seem weirder because it was so cute.
i don't know much about the psychology behind masochism, or sadism for that matter, but i think i read Freud's definition years ago. well if man creates his (or her) own personal demons then this conveyed that effectively and hilariously. outstanding. i would love to see more from Patrick Smith.
being a ardent fan of traditional hand animation, i love to see anything new contributed to the craft. this cartoon is definitely a lot deeper than most of the recent commercial stuff.
this film was also a entry at the wonderful Ojai Film Festival in California where i've discovered many incredible short subject films and i always like and support them in their endeavors.
