A Love Letter to Classic Star Trek
sjbreen4 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I approached ST: Prodigy with low expectations but it has truly surprised me. Silly and fun for younger viewers but it's a great new addition to the franchise.

This episode serves as semi sequel to TOS Episode 2x18: "Obsession" and honors the legacy of a classic forgettable "Red Shirt" who was stranded on a pre warp civilization and shows the results of breaking the Prime Directive & First Contact rules, as a civilization evolves around premature exposure to Star Fleet in a simple yet fun way. Members of the civilization are named after classic characters in an "alien" way, mannerisms are obviously based on stereotypes of the original cast's acting, greetings are parody's of Vulcan greetings. It's all simple and lovable fun!

Even as the episode gets more serious it pays tribute to the classic TOS Movies with its own version of the V'ger twist!

If you love classic silly campy Star Trek fun, this is the episode for you!

The glorious return of TOS
suncountee14 November 2022
This is a lovely tribute to both Star Trek: The Original Series and the Star Trek fandom at large. At first it seems to be poking gentle fun at people who dress up as Starfleet and memorize every line of dialogue, but the second half completely flips it on its head and reveals that you should never judge a book by its cover. A brilliant episode worthy of the best of Trek... it feels like an instant classic. And an ode to the redshirt!

It also is a great throwback to old TOS episodes like "A Piece of the Action" and "Patterns of Force" when cultural contamination in a pre-warp society could completely change a planet's society. In this case, to be a little more like Starfleet... or should I say "Star-Flight"?
