Arjun Rampal will be attending The Bollywood Festival Norway in Oslo

Arjun Rampal will be attending The Bollywood Festival Norway in Oslo next month where his upcoming film Daddy will be screened as the closing film of the 15th annual event on the 14th of September this year. Arjun Rampal’s much talked-about film Daddy, which is based on the story of Mumbai-based gangster Arun Gawli, has been directed by National Award-winner Ashim Ahluwalia.

The film has been making waves and of course by the impressive transformation of Arjun Rampal into the character.

From the rough streets and back alleys of Central Mumbai comes the sensational true story of Arun Gawli, a man who scripted his own destiny, eventually going on to become one of India’s most feared gangsters. Today he remains an enigmatic figure; at once a volatile, power-hungry criminal for some and the respected “Daddy” or a modern day Robin Hood for the working-class neighbourhood he belongs to.

Films We Expected To Debut In 2013 But Didn't: Djinn Carrénard's 'Faire L’amour' ('Making Love')

Continuing with the 3rd film in this series... The first two were Cynthia Mort's Nina Simone biopic, Nina, starring Zoe Saldana in the title role, and David Oyelowo, and Pierre Bagley's From The Rough, starring Taraji P. Henson. Film number 3 is Haitian (though France-based) filmmaker Djinn Carrénard's second feature, Faire l’amour (or Making Love). It's a film that I actually thought would debut last year, but didn't, and felt rather strongly that it was on its way to an international film festival premiere during the first half of this year - like the Cannes Film Festival, where his acclaimed feature film...

Films We Expected To Debut In 2013 But Didn't: New Trailer For Taraji P. Henson Drama 'From The Rough'

Speaking of films we expected to debut in 2013 but didn't... this is one of the films on my list of films to highlight. So I may as well get to it right now, since a brand new release trailer has surfaced, signalling that the film's theatrical debut isn't too far away. For those who've been wondering what the status of the Taraji P. Henson sports drama, From The Rough, is, and whether you'll get the chance to see it eventually, well, it's still not very clear, despite this morning's trailer unveiling. Last we reported on this, in August, an IndieGoGo campaign had been set up by the film's producer/financier Michael Critelli, to raise $500,000 to help with the film's release....

'From The Rough' Producer Hopes To Raise $500,000 via IndieGoGo To Help w/ Film's Release

An interesting development on this project that I was informed of over the weekend (thanks Christine!). For those who've been wondering what the status of the Taraji P. Henson sports drama, From The Rough, is, and whether you'll get the chance to see it eventually, well, it's still not very clear.  Last I reported on this, in May, courtesy of a report from Main Line Media News in Ardmore, Pa, where the film was apparently scheduled to screen, here's what we learned: The film was shown at some film festivals and awards events in 2011, and, in its current version, is being prepared for theatrical release in 2014. Its Ardmore screening will be the first time it is seen in the...

'From The Rough' Screenings In Pa + Producer Says 25 Minutes Cut & 2014 Release Planned

The film was shown at some film festivals and awards events in 2011, and, in its current version, is being prepared for theatrical release in 2014. Its Ardmore screening will be the first time it is seen in the Philadelphia area, Critelli said. Its next showing here will be in July, during the National Urban League conference, hosted by the Urban League of Philadelphia. Critelli said the current version runs 92 minutes, trimming about 25 minutes, and focuses even more clearly on the coach’s character and “her transformation as a leader and mentor to young people.” For those who've been wondering what about the status of the Taraji P. Henson sports drama, From The Rough, and...

Director Pierre Bagley Finally Speaks On "From The Rough" Release Problems (Taraji P Henson Stars)

Director Pierre Bagley Finally Speaks On
Well... I was scheduled to chat with the director of the film Pierre Bagley on Monday morning, but after listening to this, I suppose there isn't much need to now. In the clip below, speaking with Roland Martin on his radio show, Bagley explains what the hold up has been with the release of the Taraji P. Henson sports drama From The Rough, which was supposed to open on February 3rd 2012 (pushed from an initial October date), but, as I noted in a previous post, never did open as scheduled. I sent an email to Gyre Entertainment, the production company behind the film, inquiring about its release, and I did eventually receive a reply, and a phone conversation with Bagley was scheduled for Monday, during which he was to reveal details on the film's release. In listening to the interview below, clearly something's fishy about all this, but I'll let

Exclusive: After Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe turned in great numbers on the CBS Films-distributed The Woman In Black, and Emma Watson readies for a re-team with David Yates in Your Voice Inside My Head for Warner Bros, what has become of that bratty Draco Malfoy, who tormented the hell out of Potter and his wand-waving mates over eight films? Tom Felton is in negotiations to star opposite Elizabeth Olsen and Glenn Close in Therese Raquin. Written and set to be helmed by acclaimed theater director Charlie Stratton, the film’s being produced by William Horberg and Mickey Liddell. Close is attached for the role of Madame Raquin, and Olsen for Therese, who, with her lover Laurent, murder her husband (Felton), a sick boy that Madame Raquin forced Therese to marry. After Therese later marries her true love, the couple is haunted by the ghost of the dead husband and

Watch Taraji P. Henson In Trailer For Sports Drama “From The Rough”

Finally, we have our first look at Taraji P. Henson, Henry Simmons, Michael Clarke Duncan, Tom Felton, Letoya Luckett, and others in the upcoming sports drama From the Rough – a project we alerted you to back in August last year.

Pierre Bagley produced and directed the project, which stars Taraji as Cassandra Turner, a fictional character based on the real-life Dr. Catana Starks, a former swim coach at Tennessee State University who became the first woman ever to coach a college men’s golf team. With drive, passion, and guts, she took an unruly group of mismatched kids from around the world and guided them to an all-time record at the PGA National Collegiate Minority Championship.

Simmons plays the college’s snooty athletic director who bumps heads with Turner.

Michael Clarke Duncan plays a maintenance man at the college who knows everything about everyone on campus.

For Your Consideration 2012 – A Look At Black Performers Who May Be In Contention For Oscar Next Year

As I asked on Twitter last night… will we be reading and debating another batch of “Hollywood Whiteout” articles, this time next year (referencing the New York Times op-ed printed a few weeks ago, which offered some analysis on the lack of African American Oscar nominees this year)?

Given my continuously updated Outlook 2011 post (read it Here), the answer to that question probably won’t be pleasant, unfortunately!

Why? Well… because there just aren’t many noteworthy performances on the horizon by blacks in film, both in front of and behind the camera this year.

The usual suspects (or past winners) are mostly absent from the big screen this year, just like last year, or aren’t working on any Oscar-worthy projects. For example, Denzel Washington will appear in 1 film – an action/thriller called Safe House, co-starring Ryan Reynolds (it seems as if Hollywood is starting to use him as
