Storyline

The Shannon family joins the Tenth Pilgrimage of settlers to Terra Nova, the first colony established in this beautiful yet foreboding land. Jim Shannon, a devoted father with a checkered past, guides his family through this new world of limitless beauty, mystery and terror. Upon the Shannons' arrival, they are introduced to Cmdr. Nathaniel Taylor, the charismatic and heroic first pioneer and leader of the settlement. Taylor warns the travelers that while Terra Nova is a place of new opportunities and fresh beginnings, all is not as idyllic as it initially appears. Along with blue skies, towering waterfalls and lush vegetation, the surrounding terrain is teeming with danger - and not just of the man-eating dinosaur variety. There is also a splinter colony of renegades led by the battle-hardened Mira, who is vehemently opposed to Taylor and his leadership.

Goofs

The Moon over Terra Nova appears to be much larger than it is now, supposedly because it was much closer to Earth 85 million years ago. The Moon was in fact closer back then, but only by about 3000 kilometers, which is less than 1 percent of the Earth-Moon distance. Such a difference would be much too small to notice with a naked eye.

Great pilot, has potential.

I thought the Terra Nova pilot was great. The budget for this episode was 12 million dollars, and they put it to good use with the special effects of the dinosaurs, and the atmosphere of Terra Nova. Even though The dinosaur action was mostly in the second half of the premiere, I thought they did it well. The story with Taylor's son will probably go into further episodes, and explain the messages on Terra Nova he is making. It has Lost/Jurassic Park elements in it.

I would recommend watching this show. Don't believe the negative reviews. At least watch the first five episodes of Terra Nova, and then decide if you wanna watch it. I'm tuning into next weeks episode to find out more about the "Sixers" they mention, and why they are stealing the power source from Terra Nova. Watch this show.
