Trivia

A. Scott Berg's biography "Max Perkins: Editor of Genius", on which the film is based, won the National Book Award, upon the publication in 1978.
The movie has been in development for 15 years, according to screenwriter John Logan, who first read the novel in 1983.
At no point during the film does Colin Firth (as Perkins) appear without his hat on, until the end when he reads Thomas' posthumous letter. In reverence, he takes the hat off.
Michael Fassbender was cast as Thomas Wolfe but after the film was delayed, it caused scheduling conflicts and Fassbender dropped out. Jude Law later replaced him.
The third collaboration between Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, and this is first time they don't portray each other's spouse. They previously starred in The Railway Man (2013) and Before I Go to Sleep (2014). This also marks the second collaboration between Kidman and Jude Law, after Cold Mountain (2003).
Michael Grandage's debut as director of a feature film.
In preparation for his part, Jude Law visited the The Thomas Wolfe Memorial in Wolfe's hometown Asheville, NC.
Nicole Kidman described her part of Aline Bernstein as "a fiery, dark-haired, strong woman, flamboyant, ahead of her time. My kind of stuff".
After Nicole Kidman and director Michael Grandage worked on this film, they collaborated on the West End stage play "Photograph 51", for which Kidman won the Evening Standard Theatre Award.
Roadside Attractions will premiere the film at Berlin Film Festival and release the film theatrically in July. The distribution company used the exact same release strategy for Mr. Holmes (2015), also starring Laura Linney, that went on to become a summer sleeper hit among mature audiences.
The screenplay for this film was featured in the 2007 Blacklist; a list of the "most liked" unmade scripts of the year.
In real life, Aline Bernstein was 20 years older than Thomas Wolfe. The age difference of the actors who portray them (Jude Law and Nicole Kidman) is only 5 and a half years.
Jude Law and director Michael Grandage previously worked together on stage productions of "Henry V" and "Hamlet".
