This is the original that was made some 40 years ago. Based on a comic by Ikki Kajiwara, and Takumi Nagayasu, "Ai to Makoto" is a love story between a boy with humble background, and a girl from a well to do family.
Taiga Makoto (Hideki Saijo) saves Ai Saotome's (Ai Saotome) life when they were a child. One day, Ai meets Makoto while he's having a brawl with another delinquent. Ai offers Makoto to come and transfer to her school where her father has influence over. Makoto continues in his delinquent ways. Story continues in this path until Makoto and Ai gets involved in the final showdown..
The movie featured, then teen heart throb singer Hideki Saijo, and a new comer Ai Saotome (real name Satomi Setoguchi) who were selected out of 40000 applicants for the role. At the time, the lead actor Hideki Saijo personally recommended her for the part. Saotome was known at the time for having a perfect hourglass shaped body.
The story is modern day Romeo and Juliet, plus the movie "Romeo Must Die". Hideki Saijo shows he has talent other than singing, and does a credible job as Makoto Taiga. This saves the movie from becoming just another teen bopper movie.
