Silver Sable Movie to Be First Spider-Man Spinoff at Sony?

25 June 2016 8:47 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Are we about to get a Silver Sable movie? Sony has been in control of everything related to any and all Spider-Man movies for quite some time, but they recently struck a deal with Marvel Studios to allow Spidey into the McU. Sony still owns the rights to the character and his rogues gallery, but they seem to be letting Kevin Feige and Co. drive the ship. That said, Sony still never much has hopes of making more movies with other Spider-Man characters. As it turns out, we may already know one of the movies that Sony is planning as a Spider-Man spinoff for what has widley become known as 'The Spider-Verse'.

A new report from ComicBookMovie suggests that Sony is planning a Silver Sable movie, with Abi Morgan, the writer of The Invisible Woman, attached. The rumor comes from former editor of The Wrap Jeff Sneider, who is claiming »

Sony’s Spider-Man Expanded Universe May Include Silver Sable Movie

24 June 2016 2:35 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Sony’s Spider-Man movie universe received a boost yesterday when chairman Tom Rothman confirmed that the studio still plans to push forward with some of those long-rumored webslinger spinoffs. Sinister Six and Venom were two projects in development years ago that may be back on the table, and according to a new rumor, there’s another fan favorite character earmarked for a solo outing: Silver Sable.

Silver Sable hails from Marvel comics, and as part of Sony’s Spider-Man licensing deal from decades ago, the studio is entitled to use her on the big screen. She’s a spy, mercenary and generally a bit of an antiheroine, so that makes her perfect franchise fodder. After material like Deadpool proved audiences are happy to back an antihero, Silver Sable’s a solid choice for a Spidey spinoff.

Rumor: Sony Planning A Silver Sable Movie With The Invisible Woman Screenwriter Abi Morgan

24 June 2016 10:50 AM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

This was first mentioned in those infamous Sony email leaks, and now rumor has it that the studio is making moves again. On this week's episode of Meet The Movie Press, former The Wrap editor Jeff Sneider says he's heard that Sony still want to move forward with a Silver Sable movie, and are talking with screenwriter Abi Morgan (Shame, The Hour, The Invisible Woman,The Iron Lady) with a view to her penning the script. Silver Sable is a marvel Comics antihero/mercenary who has been both an ally and enemy of Spider-Man and several other characters. She has no actual superpowers, so it might be the case that Sony is interested in developing a Punisher-like female-led comic book movie that would eventually crossover with the rebooted Spider-Man/Marvel universe. No other details are provided, but watch this space for updates. »

Is Jamie Bell the New James Bond?

26 May 2016 4:23 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

In the months leading up to the release of last year's James Bond adventure Spectre, franchise star Daniel Craig made more than this fair share of disparaging remarks about both the franchise itself and the title character, 007. It seemed clear from many industry observers that Spectre would be Daniel Craig's last James Bond movie, although nothing has been set in stone quite yet. While we wait for the official announcement, it seems another actor has thrown his hat in the ring as a possible replacement, Fantastic Four star Jamie Bell.

Deadline reports that Jamie Bell has been in discussions about the role with producer Barbara Broccoli, one of the longtime 007 producers alongside Michael G. Wilson, who is also producing Jamie Bell's new project Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool. Nothing is confirmed, and this report reveals that there isn't even a working script for James Bond 25 yet. »

Fantastic Four 2 May Still Happen

13 May 2016 11:48 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Several months before 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Four hit theaters, the studio announced plans for The Fantastic Four 2, setting a 2017 release date for the sequel. Unfortunately for the studio, Fantastic Four was a colossal bomb, taking in just $11.3 million in its opening weekend last August, en route to a disappointing $56.1 million domestic gross. The movie fared a bit better internationally, with a worldwide total of $167.9 million, but it still wasn't the big hit that the studio envisioned. Shortly after the release, rumors swirled that the sequel was canceled, and in November, the studio pulled the movie from its 2017 release schedule. As it turns out, though, the sequel may still happen.

There were other reports last year that the studio was pulling Fantastic Four 2 in favor of Deadpool 2, which is now certainly happening, after Deadpool took in $762.1 million worldwide. The last we heard about Fantastic Four 2 was in January, when star Michael B. »

Is this cast photo of the ’X-Men' extended universe the laziest remix ever?

4 January 2016 3:23 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

New year, same problems. As part of their preview of their 2016 movie preview (preview-ception!) released this photo released of the casts from Fox’s ‘X-Men’ universe taken by Sarah Dunn at Sdcc last year and augmented by illustrator John Royle. Actors from “X-Men Apocalypse,” “Deadpool,” “Gambit,” and the untitled Wolverine sequel were all on display. Well, not everyone. Some Very key players were missing. And the Internet noticed…immediately. Image Credit: 20th Century Fox/Empire Magazine Do you see it? Do you see who’s missing? The young mutants, including Storm (Alexandria Shipp), Jubilee (Lana Condor), are nowhere to be seen. Considering the microscope Hollywood has been under over diversity — or lack thereof — in recent years, it seems a gross misstep to remove two WoC (Women of Color) from the group shot. But wait, it gets weirder. With Twitter questioning just how this happened, eagle-eyed user TASK1ne noticed something very familiar about this photo. »
