Too Many Variables
Hitchcoc1 April 2019
This was an OK episode. I won't say much other than there was an awful lot of stuff going on among this small group of men. Granted, some were put through hell in the war. But there seemed to be no sense of normalcy in the entire troop. Still, we were given a look at what the implications of war are.

Superb.

Two deaths are cleared up, the apparent murder of poor Catz, and also the suicide of Lockfield.

I enjoyed the first part very much, I thought this second part was superb, it's a complex story that deals with an incredibly sensitive situation, I think the writer delivered a terrific script, and the acting team did an equally great job. Michelle Fairley impresses again as DI Harte, a shame she didn't get a chance to return, a great character.

It's a very powerful episode, it's dramatic, shocking and quite sad, the stories of both victims are quite compelling. I only wish they'd addressed the case of Harry's so called change of evidence.

Hits home, 10/10.

A sensitive view of a difficult scenario
akicork21 March 2019
Surely very difficult to write and act this. An intense look at the divide between the humans we are and the the trained "men of steel" (and women!) we need to protect us - and the fact that they are the same. There is no divide in actuality: fundamentally, we are all the same vulnerable beings, with emotions, fears and families to protect. The final shot, with the red of the poppies standing out against the almost monochrome of the roadway and the soldiers' camouflage, is especially poignant.
