- Annie is sent to London to be a "mark," attempting to be recruited by a group of smugglers. Back at the CIA, the chain of command is tested as Arthur and Joan are forced to bring Henry Wilcox back into the fold.—CW Publicity
- Annie (Piper Perabo) comes home to find Danielle (Anne Dudek) waiting up . She tells Annie her third grade daughter Chloe needs a fast replacement field trip and so she wants to bring 30 kids to the Smithsonian - where Annie doesn't actually work - in two days.
She wants to meet Annie's boss. At first Annie cringes, but then she decides it's a good idea - when she's not busy wincing from tooth pain.
JFK Airport: Don Ridley is pulled out of line at the airport over his protests that his medical supplies were cleared in London. Joan (Kari Matchett), Arthur (Peter Gallagher) and Jai (Sendhil Ramamurthy) watch on a surveillance feed as security goes through the "supplies" which they think might trace back to Angola. They find rough diamonds.
Don runs. He's finally caught by security.
At Langley, Arthur tells Joan the bosses want to "read in" Henry Wilcox (0411857])) on the Angola connection. Joan doesn't like the idea of Arthur's old boss roaming the halls.
She also tells him he can sleep in their bed tonight; she'll be at work.
On the phone, Annie confirms the Smithsonian field trip with Danielle, who urges her again to go to the dentist. Annie had a few bad experiences with military base dentists as a kid and is putting it off.
Jai, Joan and others watch the feed of the FBI with Don the smuggler. He swears he thought it was just medical supplies. He's been back and forth between London and the US 20 times in eight months, all with a pre-screened manifest signed by the US Embassy in London.
Joan likes the idea of replacing Don as the courier.
Jai comes for Annie. Joan wants to send her to London.
Annie is briefed on Don's "expediter" Vivian Long (Anna Chlumsky). She helps US businesses abroad. She's involved whether she means to be or not. She applied to the agency, but couldn't pass the physical.
Annie's Smithsonian cover makes her a great fit because they import stuff back and forth all the time. They're going to make her appealing to the smugglers by giving Annie Walker of the Smithsonian a gambling problem. It'll be deep cover, Jai will be there, but with no contact.
London: Annie calls Danielle to tell her she's in London, bringing pre-Colombian artifacts over and the field trip is a go without her.
As Annie is checking in with customs, a highly-caffeinated Vivian finds her. She certainly doesn't seem like a diamond smuggler.
Vivian drives back from the airport, barely getting the wrong-side-of-the-road correct and swerving all over. She offers to show Annie around and knows of a casino they can hit that night.
Jai checks in with the US Embassy. They have surveillance footage of Don meeting with Vivian but before he got the diamonds. They're still not sure how she's involved.
At the British Museum, Annie swaps her art, which Vivian has totally brushed up on. She tells Annie she'll get her papers so she doesn't have to worry about customs.
Annie calls Auggie (Christopher Gorham), telling him she likes Vivian. Meanwhile, Vivian tells someone on the phone that Annie will be going back and forth twice a month, but she likes Annie and wishes it could be someone else.
Auggie tells Annie this'll be their last open call and she's to use her encrypted phone strapped to her thigh for emergencies only. Auggie reminds her to lose at craps, without looking like she's trying.
At Langley, Henry visits Arthur, who reminds him he doesn't like him.
On the FBI interrogation, Don agrees to give up an address for some food for his low blood sugar.
At the embassy, Jai and the embassy CIA guy walk by and Annie plays dumb. Vivian says they're "spooks" who work in the basement.
Jai and the dude go to the address Don gave up - it's an ancient looking stone building renovated to a club. Inside, they hear a noise and go upstairs. They find a jeweler's scale. And then a shot rings out. Jai watches as she gets way.
At Langley, Henry joins the Langley viewing of Don's interrogation. He's newly married, to a Brit. They're waiting on a green card for her, which would be Vivian's territory, indicating she might be involved.
Henry reads the transcript quickly and notices Don hasn't mentioned his wife. They look at a photo - of a young cute brunette, Patricia Ridley.
Cut to her, all doled up, waiting for Annie and Vivian at the super fancy casino. Vivian says a quick hello to Jonathan Turnbull, a hot guy at the bar.
Annie declares her plans to turns $10,000 into $20,000. She gives Vivian her purse to hold and she lets Turnbull lift Annie's phone and hotel key.
Outside, Turnbull gives Annie's key to someone and goes through her phone. It rings to Auggie, who answers "Smithsonian."
Inside, Annie drinks up and keeps betting. Vivian tries to caution her to slow down, but Annie says gin is a cure for tooth aches.
Back at the hotel, a guy goes through Annie's room.
Losing at the tables, Annie gets a line of credit and keeps drinking. Jai reports on the room search to Auggie. In turn, he tells Jai that the prints from the mystery woman match Don's wife Patricia, who we see walk up to Annie's table.
She's down to her last bet and Vivian tries to talk her out of a risky one. All they need is for her to lose to be a good smuggling target.
But the whole thing goes awry when her bet hits and Annie wins $30,000.
Annie is stunned to see she's ruined her plans. Joan and Auggie wonder how she'll salvage the op. Annie gleefully announces she'll let it ride and plays snake eyes again. A man at the table lets his bet ride with Annie's.
This time, she loses. Observing at the table, Patricia and Turnbull are pleased to see her crap out.
The pit boss tells Annie she won't be allowed to leave the country til she repays her $8,000 loan.
Later, outside, Annie goes through the motions of freaking out. Finally, Vivian says she might have another way, but it's something she probably shouldn't do. She tells Annie about the smuggling, and it's not drugs but she can't meet the people she'd be working for. Annie jumps at the chance, but Vivian tells her it's a really bad idea and to sleep on it.
Annie comes back to the hotel and signals Jai it's a go.
Annie wakes up hungover to a call from Danielle, freaked out on the steps of the Smithsonian because she's there with the 30 kids and no one knows about the tour.
Annie calls Auggie, who then calls Cover Operations and reams them.
Joan briefs Arthur and Henry on Patricia, who's actually Lara Kormen, a former Turkish intelligence operative now a mercenary, maybe working in human trafficking.
They conference with Jai and the embassy dude, who say Vivian has processed dozens of visa applications which trace back to Kormen's people, so she's in deep. Jai wants to flip her, but Henry says they have to get Annie in first.
Annie comes late to her meeting with Vivian and before answering, she asks Vivian why she's working with the smugglers. Vivian talks about being a dork with no life and wanting to impress Turnbull, and now she can't get out.
She tells Annie again not to do it, but Annie won't listen of course. Her meeting is later that day.
In London's Hyde Park. Annie meets with Patricia, who's waiting for her on a bench. She tells Annie the less she knows the better, but Vivian won't be her contact. She tells Annie she'll be paid with a line of credit at the casino.
Patricia takes a call, she slips into Turkish, saying Annie is a strong woman, with a weakness they can exploit.
Annie gets a call from Chloe, who is really enjoying Auggie at the museum. As she's on the phone, she hears Patricia telling someone they need to eliminate Vivian. She tries to look like she's not listening.
Annie calls Vivian and tries to keep her at the office, but she says she's late for a meeting and runs. Annie pulls out her encrypted phone.
At Langley, they take Annie's call in conference. She tells them Vivian is in danger, they recognize the woman Annie describes as Kormen.
Henry says saving Vivian would tip their hand and argues Kormen is setting Annie up to draw her out when she makes a move. Arthur ignores him and tells Jai to have the Marines stop Vivian at the door.
Jai says Vivian has already left, so Joan sends him after her.
Vivian meets with Patricia and a couple goons at the old warehouse.
Despite orders to the contrary, Annie goes to there. She's greeted by a gun to the head.
A goon marches Annie in. Patricia tells Annie she could tell she was listening. Patricia and one goon leave, leaving Turnbull to finish off Annie and Vivian, who's still not clear what's happening.
"I'm one of the basement people," Annie explains. "We got flushed out."
As Turnbull aims at Vivian, Annie chops his gun arm and punches him. Jai and the embassy guy turn on the old club's music and light system so a disco party breaks out in the dark as Annie and Vivian make a run for it.
Jai shoots at Turnbull and Patricia.
Vivian falls down on a catwalk and freezes so Annie goes back to get her as the goons keep shooting. Annie hustles her outside, where they run smack into Patricia and her gun. Annie steps in front of Vivian and a shot rings out. But it's Jai - he hit Patricia in the back.
Back at Langley, Henry tells Arthur he may have saved a life but he blew an operation. But Arthur and Joan say the director is pleased: the Angola chatter has died down, Komen is dead, Vivian knows more than they thought and they're getting lots of intel from the men Jai captured.
Again, Joan tells Arthur he should sleep in their room and indicates that she'll be there this time.
Vivian enplanes with Annie and Jai. She's relieved to be out from under her own lies. Annie looks like she wishes she could relate.
Annie calls Auggie and asks him to have a dentist waiting.
