A teen-comedy like none other you've ever seen.
4 August 2010 | by (New Zealand) – See all my reviews

In a genre that is swarmed with tits and ass, bad poop jokes and pathetic characters who are struggling with issues.

This film is genius. It is beautiful story about the male body image and an age old struggle for manhood. All portrayed through the eyes of teenagers. It is beautifully acted and the images that are delivered by Angelo DiMarco are sheer beauty.

This film takes the teen comedy genre and adds a twist to it. All the goods are still there. The jocks, the token black guy, the loser/underdog and the sweet girl that the loser and the jock are fighting for. The struggle that the loser (Bomgardner) must overcome is the seemingly small size of his penis. Compared to the jock's (Singer) over-sized penis, as he puts it "11 inches baby".

The laughs are intricately well placed and the humor seems to grow sweeter and sweeter and we are rooting for Ryan in no time at all. This is a job well done on the part of director Andrew Reisfeld, who takes all the well known genre staples and adds another dimension of the Josh Dillinger character, which is the name of Ryan's manhood.

This issue has never been tackled in film before, some films kind of hint at the manhood issue, but having watched tons of Romantic and teen comedies I can say that Shortcomings is a one-of-a-kind film that is witty, fun and heartwarmingly sweet at the same time.

Well done Andrew Reisfeld and team!
