Eric and Horatio arrive at CSI HQ barely in time to prevent toxic gasses slaughtering their colleagues. Tragically, it's too late for Jesse, who hurt his head while falling. It's clearly the work of serial killer professor Bob Starling, but also destroyed most evidence against him. Several trails or followed, laid by him, causing confusion about his accomplice(s), notably the part played by ruthless opportunist Melissa Walls and campus janitor Keith Garwood. Starling's plan includes computer-controlled weapons and daring escape. Written by KGF Vissers

When Calleigh weighs the recovered round, she makes a comment on the weight of the round. The standard weight she quotes is correct for a .223 projectile, but not for a complete round, with casing and propellant intact. See more »

Lieutenant Horatio Caine: Keith, listen to me. When someone lies to me, it really, really hurts my feelings. You're Starling's boy. You've been with him the whole time, right? Go.
Eric Delko: How did he get you to do it? Money?
Keith Garwood: You cops are all the same. You think people are just motivated by money.
Eric Delko: We know you worship Starling. How did he convince you to kill a cop?
Keith Garwood: What are you talking about? Nobody said...

Formidable Foes
1 March 2012 | by See all my reviews

We pick up where last year's season finale left - with members of the CSI team suddenly collapsing and dropping to floor.

It turns out someone put the toxic gas "Halon" in the air conditioning ducts for the CSI floor. CSI boss "Horatio Caine," out on assignment, arrives in time to see the bodies. He shoots out the glass to bring some fresh air into the room. All revive within minutes except for one: "Jesse Cardoza" (Eddie Cibrian) who is dead.

Old nemesis "Bob Starling" (Roger Bart) is behind the attack, and we learn he also had an accomplice. Bart is good in this role as a psycho-killer and interesting to watch.

Kristen Hager is also good as Starling's partner, "Melissa Walls," another baddie. Both she and Starling are tough adversaries not just because they are determined but they're very intelligent people. They aren't easy to catch. to say the least.

This season opener is a good one - not the greatest they've had in nine years - but still one which will entertain you. I'm just sorry that "Jesse" is no longer on the show. I liked him.
