- It's the finals for the remaining 3 contestants. The 3 finalists dance 4 times: with an all-star, with each of their fellow contestants, and a solo. The 1st Malevos fight routine is performed by Kent and Robert.
- Its been a road full of smiles and tears, peaks and valleys, and the top three got their final chance to impress the voters of America before they decide who will win the seventh season and be named Americas favorite dancer.
A highlight reel of moments from the season kicked off the night and -- hey, was that a Mary Murphy sighting? Remember when she was on the show and we were told shed choreograph some routines?
Kent: Getting to the performances, we saw Kent team with all-star Lauren for a Bollywood routine choreographed by Nakul Dev Mahajan. Nigel said it was great fun choreography, great costumes and great dancing. Mia said it was the perfect, tailored Bollywood piece for Kent. Adam suggested the Energizer bunny should retire, and was impressed with Kents energy and precision. He called Kent the feel-good dancer of the year.
Lauren: Lauren was matched with Twitch for a hip-hop routine in which they were playing a pair of politicians engaged in a debate, but their points and counterpoints were dance moves. Nigel said he hoped Sarah Palin wouldnt pick up the routine. He told Lauren all three dancers deserve to win the competition, and she showed her strength and her ability to transfix the audience with everything she does. Mia said Tabitha and Napoleon have had a great season, and she said theres nothing Lauren cant do. Adam said Lauren made him proud to be sitting in his chair and that she has blown this season out of the water.
Robert: Robert joined all-star Mark for a Tyce DiOrio jazz routine. Nigel said he liked it and enjoyed that it was a different style of choreography than he expects from Tyce. Nigel said he really doesnt mind which of the three finalists take the title. Mia said Robert has become more grounded since the beginning of the season, which is the opposite of what most dancers do. Adam said Robert danced like he wasnt competing, which is what he was wanting all season.
Lauren & Robert: The two finalists were matched for a Dean Kaspary contemporary routine in which they used a pillow as a prop. Nigel praised Dean and said Lauren and Robert danced it beautifully. Mia called it the most delicious performance from Robert. She said hed evolved into a genius dancer, and noted that hes humble. Adam said it was great to see how much the dancers support and love each other. He said they were, one word, Magnificent.
Lauren & Kent: Thats not a typo. Just minutes after her contemporary dance with Robert, Lauren was back on stage for a Mandy Moore jazz number with Kent. Nigel took a deep breath before talking about how the routine showed the different styles the dancers will face, but he didnt think they were challenged enough for the finale. Mia thought shed go down in flames for her critique. She asked Lauren and Kent if it was fun, she said they danced it well, but she didnt like it. Adam said, I love you guys, that was crazy, get out of here.
Kent: For his next all-star dance, Kent was paired with Allison and choreographer Stacey Tookey. The routine told the story of a couple that pretended to be great and happy and reaching their breaking point. Nigel said Kents lines get better each week, and his emotions were back. He said there wasnt a single chink in that armor. Mia praised Kent for buying into the character he playing. Adam asked Kent why he was becoming emotional, and Kent replied, You just get so invested with the movement and the story that the steps dont even matter. Adam said Kent just became an artist and told him how proud he was of him.
Robert: Robert was paired with all-star Kathryn in a Broadway routine by Spencer Liff in which Robert was being interrogated by the sexy Kathryn. Robert split his pants. Nigel and Adam argued over whether the piece (Cool from West Side Story) was or wasnt in the play as opposed to the movie, or both. Nigel then said Robert got better every week. Mias only critique was that she wanted more simmer and sizzle inside of the movement. Adam said its a very special piece of music and choreography, and Spencer and Robert both did it justice.
Lauren: For her final dance of the competition, Lauren drew a cha cha with Pasha, choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie Lapatin. Nigel said it looked to him like it was damn-near perfect. He went on to say Lauren was probably the best contemporary girl hes seen do a ballroom routine. Mia asked Lauren, Who are you? She said she was happy she stood up for Laurens butt (she meant it literally). Mia then said, If I was still dancing, I would want to dance just like you. Adam said Lauren feels music like no one else on the show, and if music could turn into a person, music would be you.
Robert & Kent: Miriam Larici and Leonardo Barrionuevo choreographed the shows first performed a Malevos fight, an Argentine style of dance with two guys who face off. Nigel acknowledged that Wednesday nights finalists have done more dancing than the finalists from any other season. He said Robert, Kent and Lauren have proven how hard you have to work to achieve something. Mia said she loved the feel of the piece, and said she loved it and told them the legwork could be tighter. Adam agreed that there were some small elements that werent right, but that all three finalists had become his favorite dancers across all the seasons. He pointed out tha tthe final trio was the youngest ever, and theyd all grown up this season.
