The actual Jukebox Awards ceremony was held November 2, 1980 at the Conrad Hilton Hotel in Chicago, IL. The awards were presented by the Amusement Music Operators Association, a trade group for the jukebox industry. Since the TV special included award winners different from those awarded at the Chicago ceremony the legal department of NBC insisted that the term "A Tribute to" be added to the shows title according to Billboard Magazine.
